Nader El Sayed and Abdoulaye Meite confirmed as TotalEnergies CAF Under-23 AFCON Egypt 2027 Qualifiers Draw Assistants
Egypt legend Nader El Sayed and former Côte d’Ivoire international Abdoulaye Meite will serve as Draw Assistants at today’s TotalEnergies CAF Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2027 Qualifiers Draw in Cairo on Tuesday.
The draw will take place at 15h00 Cairo time (12h00 GMT) and will be streamed live on CAF TV.
El Sayed is one of Egypt’s most decorated former goalkeepers, having represented the Pharaohs more than 100 times following appearances for the country at Under-17 and Under-20 level. He was Egypt’s first-choice keeper when they lifted the CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Burkina Faso in 1998 and enjoyed a distinguished club career that included spells with Zamalek, Club Brugge, Al Masry and briefly Al Ahly.
Meite was a key member of a golden generation of Côte d’Ivoire players and represented the Elephants at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. The defender was also part of the squad that reached the final of the 2006 CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, where Côte d’Ivoire were edged by the hosts on penalties. His club career included spells with Olympique Marseille, Bolton Wanderers and West Bromwich Albion.
A total of 43 nations are engaged in the TotalEnergies CAF Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2027, with hosts Egypt automatically qualified for the finals.
The remaining 42 teams will compete for seven places at the continental showpiece through three rounds of home-and-away qualifying ties.
The First Round will feature 28 teams, with a further 14 nations exempted to the Second Round based on their performances in the previous three editions of the competition.
The seven winners from the Third Round will join Egypt at the eight-team finals.
The nations engaged are: Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Comoros, Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Djibouti, DR Congo, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
