Community partnerships and social impact drive Coca-Cola HBC’s water stewardship
As world water week highlights the growing challenge of water security, Coca-Cola HBC is continuing to invest in sustainable water management projects that help strengthen water resilience in the communities where it operates.
Water stewardship is a core part of our sustainability strategy and an important part of our approach to sustainability leadership across our business and value chain. By the end of 2025, we had launched water stewardship projects in all 19 of our high-priority water-risk locations, fulfilling a key Mission 2025 commitment and creating a strong foundation for our next phase of action under Mission Refresh.
Across our markets, we work with communities, local authorities and expert partners to deliver practical solutions tailored to local needs. The examples below from Greece show how these partnerships are helping reduce water losses, improve infrastructure and support long-term water resilience for both people and nature.
Modernising infrastructure in Aeghion, Greece
Aeghion has been home to our AVRA natural mineral water plant for more than 36 years. In a region where water resources are under increasing pressure, improving the efficiency of local infrastructure plays an important role in strengthening long-term resilience.
In partnership with the Municipality of Aeghialeia, Global Water Partnership‑Mediterranean (GWP Med) and Aeghialeia DEYA (Municipal Water Supply and Sewerage Company), we have upgraded the local water network to improve efficiency and reduce losses. The project is expected to save 100 million litres of water annually - equivalent to the yearly consumption of around 1,700 residents.

By replacing ageing pipelines with modern infrastructure, the project helps reduce leakage, improve service reliability and support the long-term sustainability of the local water network. It also helps ensure a stable supply of high-quality water, improving daily life for local residents.
Smart innovation ‘Zero Drop’ programme in Schimatari, Greece
An innovative smart technology system introduced at the Municipal Water Treatment Plant in Schimatari is helping safeguard vital water resources in the community. Delivered through the Zero Drop programme, the solution recovers 100% of the water lost during filter backwashing, saving around 15% of the total raw water being processed at the Plant. This is enough water to meet the annual needs of approximately 6,500 people. It also reduces energy use by 7-10%. The project is funded by The Coca‑Cola Foundation, Coca‑Cola Tria Epsilon, Coca‑Cola Europe and is implemented in collaboration with GWP-Med and Tanagra Municipality. It shows how cross-sector partnerships and smart innovation can build long-term water resilience for local communities

Our Mission Refresh water commitment
Under Mission Refresh, we aim to replenish every drop of water used in our beverages by 2035. Achieving this ambition will require action both within our operations and across the watersheds where we operate. We continue to invest in improving water efficiency across our plants, rolling out water-saving technologies and adopting best practices that help us reduce water use while supporting our replenishment ambition.
