CPKC Women’s Open raises nearly $5 million for Alberta cardiac care

This weekend in Edmonton saw more than a golf tournament.

While bringing world-class women’s professional golf to the Royal Mayfair Golf Club in Edmonton, the 2026 CPKC Women’s Open raised a record $4.95 million to support cardiac healthcare in Alberta.

On the final day of the tournament, which ran from Aug. 20 to 23, CPKC representatives presented a $4.4 million cheque to the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation to support the advancement of their world-renowned pediatric cardiac program.

CPKC also presented the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation benefiting the CK Hui Heart Centre, located within the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, with a $550,000 cheque to support specialized cardiac care for patients from across Alberta and Western Canada.

“This community has raised money like no other,” said CPKC Executive Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer John Brooks, during a check presentation ceremony on the first tee of the Royal Mayfair on Sunday.

Brooks, joined by CPKC Ambassador and Canadian golf legend Lorie Kane, presented the check to Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation leaders and 2026 CPKC Women’s Open Child Charity Ambassador 13-year-old Maverick Vanderzwaag.

“This gives the opportunity for people like Maverick and his family and all families across Canada to have a better chance to have a great life,” Brooks said describing how the money will support pediatric cardiac equipment and research that will save lives.

Since 2014, the CPKC Women’s Open, the company’s flagship fundraiser for its CPKC Has Heart community investment program, has now helped raise more than $31 million for children’s cardiac care research, equipment and advanced patient care. Across the network, CPKC Has Heart has contributed more than $78 million to heart health initiatives.

“We are so blown away by this incredible contribution,” said Karen Faulkner, president and CEO of the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation. “This is going to be a huge boost to our cardiac program and we are going to help kids from all over western Canada who have the most complex cardiac conditions and requiring the most complex surgeries. We are absolutely thrilled.”

Said Rachel Vanderzwaag, Child Charity Ambasador Maverick’s mother, after the check presentation, “I’m overwhelmed. We are so grateful to all the donors.”

During Sunday’s presentation Sharlene Rutherford, president and CEO of Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation, the tournament’s 2026 community charity partner said, “We are thrilled because these dollars are going to support a new research project happening here at the CK Hui Heart Centre at the Royal Alex in our city. These dollars mean everything to make that happen.”
