FedEx and RE-THINK Join Forces Again to Protect Linkou’s Coastline

Taipei – WEBWIRE

Federal Express Corporation (FedEx), one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, once again partnered with the RE-THINK Environmental Education Association on August 15 to host the “2026 FedEx x RE-THINK Beach Cleanup” at Linkou North Jetty Beach in New Taipei City. The event brought together 55 FedEx team members and their families, who collectively removed 221 kilograms of marine debris, demonstrating their commitment to protecting Taiwan’s coastline and making a positive impact through collective action.

Last year, FedEx collaborated with RE-THINK for the first time, bringing together team members and their families to support marine conservation through beach cleanup activities. Building on the strong participation and positive response, FedEx returned this year with a focused cleanup effort at Linkou North Jetty Beach, continuing to turn its commitment into action while strengthening its long-term support for environmental stewardship and local communities.

The event was also part of FedEx Purple Week’s “FWS Day of Service,” honoring the spirit of service championed by FedEx founder Frederick W. Smith by turning care for the environment and local communities into meaningful action. In addition to the beach cleanup, FedEx hosted an online marine debris education session centered on “Life Cycle Thinking,” helping team members better understand the link between everyday consumption and marine waste. Through collecting, identifying, and sorting marine debris on-site, volunteers gained firsthand insight into the impact of marine pollution, making the cleanup not only an environmental effort but also a meaningful learning experience.

Affected by ocean currents, river flows, and coastal activities, Linkou North Jetty Beach frequently accumulates plastic waste, fishing gear, and other marine debris. Through the cleanup, volunteers gained firsthand insight into the sources of marine litter and its impact on the coastal environment. This year’s event also featured interactive activities, including an “Unusual Marine Debris Challenge” and a “Microplastic Rapid Screening Challenge,” allowing participants to explore different types of marine debris and less-visible plastic pollution while strengthening teamwork. Following the event, FedEx encouraged team members to reduce plastic use, recycle more, and make environmentally conscious choices in their daily lives, reinforcing the importance of protecting the environment beyond the shoreline.

“From river cleanups in previous years to our recent beach cleanup initiatives in collaboration with RE-THINK, FedEx continues to encourage team members to make a positive impact in the communities where we live and work through meaningful action,” said Paul Sousa, Managing Director of FedEx Taiwan. “This year’s event also holds special meaning as it carries forward the spirit of service championed by our founder, Frederick W. Smith. It is especially encouraging to see our team members taking part with their families, integrating environmental responsibility into their daily lives and extending its positive impact beyond the workplace and into the community.”

RE-THINK has long been dedicated to marine conservation and environmental education. Since 2013, the organization has hosted more than 200 beach cleanups, engaged over 90,000 volunteers, and removed more than 330 tons of marine debris. “We are delighted to work with FedEx once again,” said Jason Huang, Founder of RE-THINK. “Through hands-on beach cleanups and interactive activities, more team members and their families can gain a deeper understanding of marine debris and be inspired to incorporate environmentally responsible practices into their daily lives.”
