Duke Energy awards more than $50,000 in emergency grants to support Indiana storm recovery

Duke Energy and its foundation are reaching out to its communities affected by last week’s historic floods with more than $50,000 in emergency grants.

“Our line crews and support teams who worked to restore power saw firsthand the devastating impacts of last week’s storms and historic flooding on the Indiana cities and towns we serve,” said Duke Energy Indiana President Stan Pinegar. “We know the rebuilding process is just beginning and communities have immediate needs.”

The rapid response grants will support food assistance, storm cleanup and other immediate recovery needs. Grant recipients include:

• Wayne County Community Foundation – $10,000 toward clean-up, restoration and social services in Cambridge City and Milton
  
• Franklin County Community Foundation – $10,000 to support flood recovery community needs
  
• Fayette County Community Foundation – $10,000 to support Connersville and Fayette County flood recovery
  
• Hamilton County Community Foundation – $7,500 to support restoration of damages in parks in the county
  
• Food Finders Food Bank – $5,000 to help replenish food supplies and support residents in Camden
  
• Henry County Community Foundation – $5,000 to support flood recovery community needs
  
• Sycamore Land Trust – $2,500 to support storm cleanup and trail restoration in Bloomington
  
• Brazil City Fire Department – $2,500 to support city’s response to natural disasters, including equipment purchases

“Flooding can be incredibly disruptive and create lasting challenges for communities long after flood waters recede,” said Loree Elswick, president of the Duke Energy Foundation. “These grants will help local organizations provide assistance, support recovery efforts and address needs in our communities.”
