A significant milestone in the extension project at the Home of Rolls-Royce has been achieved. Chichester MP Jess Brown-Fuller has formally opened The Link, a new road connecting Rolls-Royce Motor Cars’ existing premises with its new extension. Gunther Boehner, Director of Manufacturing at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, was her chauffeur on a ceremonial first drive along the new road, conducted in the marque’s pinnacle product, Phantom. This was followed by a tour of the new building.

  • Significant milestone in the £300 million extension project reached
  • Chichester MP Jess Brown-Fuller opens new inner link road at the Home of Rolls-Royce
  • New route will halve HGV traffic through the neighbouring ancient hamlet of Maudlin and Westhampnett village
  • ‘The Link’ connects the marque’s existing premises with its new site

“Consideration for residents in the surrounding communities of the Home of Rolls-Royce at Goodwood has been at the heart of our extension project from the very beginning . A central goal of our planning application was to create an internal route that would take traffic, particularly HGVs, off local roads wherever possible. We’ve now realised that ambition with The Link, which forms a key part of our on-site infrastructure. We were delighted to have our local MP, Jess Brown-Fuller, take the ceremonial first drive along The Link, marking the next significant step in the development of our new site extension and benefitting our neighbours in Maudlin and Westhampnett.”

The Link runs entirely within the boundaries of the Goodwood site and is designed to divert traffic away from local roads and communities. Vehicles entering from the east will now be able to pass through the site and exit from the west instead of retracing their route, reducing HGV movements through the ancient hamlet of Maudlin and neighbouring Westhampnett village by 50%. It will also provide access for Rolls-Royce staff working in the new building and using the new car park opening later this month, improving traffic flows and helping to ease congestion locally.

The new building is scheduled to be fully operational by 2029. However, some areas, such as Logistics, are already operational, with further functions preparing for the move. The extensive landscaping work around the site, which aims to deliver a Biodiversity Net Gain above the 10% required by Planning, is also near completion.

The Link is part of the £300 million extension project at the Home of Rolls-Royce that began in 2024 and is the largest single investment at Goodwood since it opened in 2003. The extension is designed to create additional space for increasingly complex Bespoke and Coachbuild projects. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars contributes over half a billion pounds to the UK economy every year and supports thousands of jobs, both directly and in the wider supply chains. The extension project is already making its own substantial contribution to the local economy: a recent Social, Local, Economic Value (SLEV) report showed that the landmark project added £3.1 million to the local economy in the first year of build.
