Angkor Wat, Without the Crowds: Anantara Angkor Resort Marks Anantara’s 25th Anniversary with a Stay Built for the Temples’ Quietest Season in Years
The resort’s ‘Angkor and the Lotus’ offer pairs a private sunrise visit to Angkor Wat with an evening of Khmer lotus tradition, timed to a rare stretch of stillness across the Angkor Archaeological Park.
Guests arriving at sunrise now find something unfamiliar at Angkor Wat: solitude. The temple’s western causeway, usually filled with tour groups by six in the morning, now offers an unbroken view across the moat to the rising towers. Fewer travellers have made the trip this year, and those who do are getting a version of Angkor rarely experienced.
Anantara Angkor Resort has built ‘Angkor and the Lotus’ for this moment, a curated offer around two of its signature experiences. The package takes its cue from the lotus, a sacred flower carved into Angkor Wat’s stone and long a symbol in Cambodia of rebirth, purity and enlightenment. Guests follow that thread across a single day, from dawn at the temple to an evening at a lotus farm beyond its grounds.
“Angkor Wat is one of the world’s great sacred sites, and right now our guests are seeing it the way it was meant to be seen: unhurried, with room to stand still and appreciate its beauty,” said Supratik Guha, General Manager of Anantara Angkor Resort. “Cambodian hospitality is as warm as it has ever been, and for anyone weighing whether now is the right time to come, I can say plainly: it is.”
Angkor Awakens
Guests set out before first light for a guided sunrise visit to Angkor Wat, where the lotus climbs across ancient balustrades, ponds and walls. The morning continues at Sras Srang, the royal bathing pool, before a quiet picnic breakfast nearby. From there, the visit progresses to Bayon Temple, seated at the centre of Angkor Thom, before Ta Prohm, widely known as the ’Tomb Raider’ temple following its feature in the Hollywood film.
Sacred Lotus Evening
At dusk, guests travel to a nearby lotus farm for a four-hour cultural immersion led by local artisans and cultural custodians. Guests glide among the blossoms by boat, learn to harvest and weave silk from the stems and discover how the plant, from stem to seed, has shaped Khmer cuisine, wellness, craft and spiritual ritual for centuries. The evening closes with an eight-course feast drawn from refined royal tradition, built around lotus-inspired ingredients and seasonal produce.
Between the two experiences, guests enjoy a boutique stay at Anantara Angkor Resort, comprising 39 suites set around a central courtyard pool. Breakfast and Khmer-inspired dining are served at Chi, the resort’s restaurant, and guests can opt for traditional Khmer wellness treatments at the on-site Anantara Spa. Exploration beyond the resort is equally easy with Siem Reap’s town centre less than ten minutes away.
The ‘Angkor and the Lotus’ package includes both signature experiences, Angkor Awakens and the Sacred Lotus Evening, along with daily breakfast throughout the stay. Rates start from USD 415 per suite per night, plus tax and service charge, and require a three-night minimum stay.
