Hannah Hampton signs new Chelsea contract

Since signing for the Blues from Aston Villa three years ago, Hampton has won five trophies with Chelsea, starred for England as the Lionesses retained their European title and was awarded the Yashin Trophy at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in 2025, recognising her as the best goalkeeper in the world over the previous year.

Hampton said: ‘I’m really happy. Chelsea have always been my dream club to play for in England so to be able to extend for another two years is a proud moment.

‘When I moved to London from the Midlands, it was my first time moving away from home and everyone at Chelsea made it feel like a home away from home and somewhere I have been able to grow not only as a player but as a person.

‘I don’t want that journey to stop and I want to continue to grow more and learn more as a person.

‘I am happy and I know there is so much more I can achieve and so much more as a team we can achieve. I am going to do everything I can to help Chelsea get back to being as successful as we have been in the past.’

Hampton, who has written a heartfelt letter to Chelsea fans upon signing her new contract, was born in Birmingham but moved to Spain at the age of five.

It was at Villarreal where she blossomed as a footballer, initially as an outfield player, before moving back to the UK just before her 11th birthday.

She switched to become a goalkeeper a year later while at Stoke City before a move to Birmingham City aged 15.

When Ann-Katrin Berger left Birmingham to join Chelsea, Hampton excelled and was named the club’s Young Player of the Season that year.

A move to Aston Villa followed in 2021 and Hampton would make her senior England debut later that season, as she kept a clean sheet against Spain.

Hampton was part of the England squad that won Euro 2022 and reached the final of World Cup 2023, having signed for Chelsea just before the tournament started.

She became Chelsea’s undisputed No.1 ahead of the 2024/25 season and the 25-year-old was in stunning form as the Blues went a whole domestic season unbeaten on our way to the Treble, winning the WSL’s Golden Glove in the process – a trophy she then retained in 2025/26.
