The Media Drive for the new Maserati GranTurismo, GranCabrio, and Grecale set against the spectacular backdrop of Trieste
Maserati chose the splendid city of Trieste for the Driving Experience dedicated to the Trident’s three new models.
From the shimmering waters of the Adriatic to the rocky landscapes of the Karst, traversing sections of the legendary Trieste-Opicina race route, the new Maserati GranTurismo, GranCabrio, and Grecale made their dynamic debut.
The curtain has just fallen on the exclusive Driving Experience dedicated to the new GranTurismo, GranCabrio, and Grecale. This authentic Italian Grand Tour unfolded along the roads of Trieste (Italy) and its surroundings–a crossroads of peoples, languages, and cultures where the Mediterranean spirit meets the profound essence of Central Europe. From July 12 to 25, this area, nestled between the shimmering waters of the Adriatic and the rugged landscape of the Karst, was the stage for the international Media Drive, which put more than 100 journalists from around the world behind the wheel of the brand’s three new models for their dynamic debut. The event was part of a rich calendar of initiatives and events celebrating the 100th anniversary of the iconic Trident logo and Maserati’s first victory in motorsport at the 1926 Targa Florio.
The Driving Experience was made even more memorable thanks to the enduring bond between Maserati and the legendary Trieste-Opicina race, the hill climb that wound its way from the heart of the city to the Karst plateau from 1911 to 1971. Nicknamed “the Uphill Monza” and renowned for attracting champions from across Europe, the race was won by a Maserati on three occasions: in 1955, when Franco Bordoni drove the Maserati 300 S to victory; in 1957, with Adolfo Tedeschi behind the wheel of a Maserati 200 SI Spider; and, finally, in 1960, when Mennato Boffa triumphed in a Maserati Tipo 60 “Birdcage.” This legendary course provided the ideal backdrop for a journey designed to showcase the character of each new model, especially that of the models equipped with the iconic Nettuno V6 engine. It is on roads like these that Maserati’s vision of Italian Gran Turismo comes to life, where design, elegance, power, and craftsmanship merge in a refined balance that is never ostentatious, but always focused on performance.
The experience unfolded across two distinct itineraries: one featuring the new GranTurismo and GranCabrio, and the other dedicated to the new Grecale. The former followed the Adriatic coastline before continuing through the Collio hills. With updated exteriors and even more refined interiors, the new GranTurismo Trofeo and GranCabrio Trofeo debut the 3.0-liter Nettuno V6, which in this configuration delivers 650 Nm of torque and 590 hp–40 hp more than the previous generation–ensuring outstanding performance without compromising comfort or long-distance capability. Thanks to motorsport-derived pre-chamber combustion technology, the enhanced engine propels the GranTurismo Trofeo beyond 320 km/h, with the standard sports exhaust amplifying its unmistakable sound. Equally authentic thrills come from the 490-hp engine, calibrated for a refined yet dynamic customer. Sportiness and comfort, on demand, at the highest level: on the fast, flowing coastal roads, the standard all-wheel drive and height-adjustable air suspension ensured the precision these cars are known for, while the winding hillside roads transformed that same composure into an engaging experience–all while offering the comfort of four true seats. Aboard the GranCabrio, with the top down beneath the Adriatic sky and along the roads of the Collio hills, participants also experienced Maserati’s purest expression of open-air driving.
Meanwhile, on the second itinerary, the new Grecale took on the roads of the Karst countryside with elegance and determination, from Trieste toward the Slovenian border. Through the route’s climbs, descents, and changes of pace, the Modena-based brand’s luxury SUV showcased its full potential: versatile driving modes and superior handling adapted effortlessly to every driving style, while the cabin, with its genuine materials, demonstrated the model’s ability to combine sporty character with everyday use without compromise. On the Karst’s fast, flowing roads, the Nettuno V6 announced its presence, featuring Maserati-patented, Formula 1-derived pre-chamber combustion technology and delivering the highest specific output in its class. The 530-hp Grecale Trofeo V6 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 285 km/h. These are numbers that reflect the uniqueness of a vehicle designed to thrill, every day. Moreover, plenty of interest and appreciation were generated by the new Grecale V6 and Modena V6* versions equipped with the 390-hp Nettuno V6 engine.
Finally, the Driving Experience in Trieste featured two memorable moments that highlighted the ongoing dialogue between design and bespoke craftsmanship that Maserati brings to every creation: firstly, through an in-depth session dedicated to the Maserati Fuoriserie Program, the atelier through which the Modena-based brand transforms every vehicle into a one-of-a-kind creation; and secondly, through the exclusive visit to ITS Arcademy - Museum of Art in Fashion, Italy’s first museum dedicated to contemporary fashion.
Santo Ficili, Alfa Romeo and Maserati CEO, stated: "A border city and cultural crossroads, Trieste provided the ideal backdrop for the dynamic debut of our three new models. On these roads, steeped in legendary motorsport history, our guests experienced firsthand what Maserati’s vision of “Italian Gran Turismo” means today. The new GranTurismo, GranCabrio and Grecale have evolved while remaining true to the authentic spirit of the Trident, which has always combined thrills with Italian craftsmanship. Whatever the itinerary or model chosen, our guests were guided by the Trident–a symbol that has charted the course of Italian sportiness and elegance around the world for the past 100 years[/i"
