FedEx Operates Humanitarian Relief Flight to Support Earthquake Recovery in Venezuela

Necessity kits provided by Global Empowerment Mission will support approximately 10,000 people affected by the devastating earthquakes

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – WEBWIRE

FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) is using its integrated air and ground network to bring humanitarian relief to those affected by the earthquake that devastated Venezuela. A dedicated humanitarian relief flight to Venezuela is carrying necessity kits provided by Global Empowerment Mission (GEM). The supplies are expected to support approximately 10,000 people affected by the catastrophic earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24.

“Our unmatched air and ground global network gives FedEx the unique ability to respond when critical supplies need to reach communities in crisis,” said Richard W. Smith, chief operating officer, International, and chief executive officer, Airline, FedEx. “The tireless dedication and united effort of our team members are what make a humanitarian mission like this possible. We are proud to help GEM deliver essential supplies to the people of Venezuela.”

The shipment was transported aboard a FedEx Boeing 767 that departed from Miami International Airport and landed in Caracas, Venezuela on Sunday, July 19. The mission marks the first FedEx aircraft operation into Venezuela under recently authorized U.S. earthquake-relief measures and reflects the immense coordination required among humanitarian organizations, government authorities, and transportation providers to respond effectively following a natural disaster.

The kits will provide shelf-stable meals and help address basic hygiene and sanitation needs that can become especially urgent when homes, utilities, and essential community services have been damaged or disrupted. Each kit contains water, hydration powder, non-perishable foods, and hygiene items that will be distributed to families and communities in the state of La Guaira, Venezuela.

“When disaster strikes, every hour matters,” said Michael Capponi, president and founder, GEM. “FedEx has been an extraordinary logistics partner, helping us move critical humanitarian aid quickly and efficiently to families who need it most. Together, we’re proving that when we work side by side, we can save more lives and bring hope to communities when it is urgently needed.”

Through its Delivering for Good initiative, FedEx supports disaster-relief organizations year-round through charitable contributions, in-kind shipping, and logistics expertise. These efforts help nonprofit organizations deliver medical supplies, hygiene kits, shelter materials, meals, and other essential aid to communities affected by disasters and humanitarian emergencies worldwide.
