All-new Elgrand launched in Japan

YOKOHAMA, Japan – WEBWIRE

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. announced the launch of the all-new Elgrand in Japan. The all-new Elgrand was first unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show 2025.

The Elgrand is Nissan’s premium minivan, built to pair spacious comfort with engaging driving performance. The new model adopts the third-generation e‑POWER hybrid system, the enhanced e‑4ORCE electric-drive all-wheel control technology, and the Intelligent Dynamic Suspension. These technologies improve ride comfort for every occupant while further elevating the “driving enjoyment” feature that is part of the Elgrand’s DNA, delivering a grand touring experience that leaves them wishing to continue the journey for longer.

Futuristic design with a commanding presence
The all-new Elgrand is guided by the design concept “The private MAGLEV”, combining a sense of linear speed with a dignified, commanding stance - a design befitting a one-of-a-kind Japanese flagship.

Larger than the outgoing model, the all-new Elgrand features a sharp silhouette and a confident planted stance from every angle. It embodies Nissan’s “Timeless Japanese Futurism” design philosophy, expressing a Japanese DNA that transcends generations. The front grille draws on Kumiko, a traditional Japanese woodworking craft, and flows seamlessly into the signature lamps, also applied to the full-width rear combination lamps. The lightweight wheels use a resin finisher to achieve an intricate, craft-like detail that aluminum alone cannot, giving the vehicle a unified appearance.

Five body colors are available. Four are monotone – Prism White, Shigoku, Dark Metal Gray and Midnight Black – and the fifth is a premium two-tone that combines two new colors: Fuji Dawn, which expresses the natural beauty of a fleeting moment of dawn over Mount Fuji, and Shigoku, inspired by a color that has long symbolized nobility and prestige in Japan.

The interior is designed to feel like a private lounge. A higher seating position broadens the driver’s forward view, and the door trim features quilting that echoes the exterior Kumiko pattern. The instrument panel integrates seamless capacitive switches into a wood-grain-finish panel, and the center and meter displays use a 14.3-inch integrated interface display – a Nissan first in Japan. Ambient lighting runs continuously from the dashboard along the doors to surround occupants, which can be adjusted up to 64 color settings.

The seats use TailorFit material in three variations: Dark on the X e‑4ORCE; Ginsetsu on the G e‑4ORCE, which expresses the beauty of snow tinted by a faint dawn sky; and Shitan , accented with the purple and blue that signify nobility in Japanese aesthetics.

Third-generation e‑POWER and enhanced e‑4ORCE

The third-generation e‑POWER hybrid system pairs a newly designed, power-generation-dedicated engine (ZR15DDTe) with a 5-in-1 e‑POWER electric powertrain unit that combines five core components – motor, generator, inverter, reducer and increaser – into a single module. New control technology significantly improves quietness and fuel efficiency, while the 100% motor drive system delivers a powerful, refined performance expected of a premium minivan. The platform is substantially improved over the previous generation, and a high-rigidity body with thorough sound insulation provides a quiet, comfortable ride.

Nissan has also further enhanced e‑4ORCE, its electric-drive all-wheel control technology that dramatically enhances driving performance in various situations.

In everyday driving, e‑4ORCE delivers a smooth and comfortable ride by suppressing body movement during starts, acceleration and braking. Building on this coordinated control of motors and brakes, the latest system also increases use of rear-wheel motor’s drive force during cornering, delivering a more engaging driving experience. Drivers can also view motor output and brake-force distribution in real time on the meter display, visualizing the system’s operation.

Intelligent Dynamic Suspension for a premium ride
The Intelligent Dynamic Suspension continuously adapts to changing road and driving conditions, adjusting damping force at each wheel in real time for a smoother ride. By reducing body motion and enhancing vehicle stability, it further elevates the ride comfort delivered by e‑POWER and e‑4ORCE.

Six drive modes to match every situation
The all-new Elgrand offers six drive modes that adjust the characteristics of e‑POWER, e‑4ORCE and the Intelligent Dynamic Suspension to suit various situations:

  • ECO — supports fuel-efficient driving
  • Standard — a balanced blend of acceleration and ride comfort
  • Sport — powerful acceleration and enhanced line-tracing handling that makes winding roads more enjoyable
  • Comfort — a comfortable, refined space for passengers
  • Snow — added confidence on snow and other slippery surfaces
  • Personal — customizable to the driver’s preferred settings

A comfortable, refined cabin for every journey
Smooth Stop optimally controls braking force as the vehicle comes to a halt. It suppresses the unpleasant jolt that occurs the moment the vehicle stops - without the driver needing to feather the brakes - for a comfortable stop for everyone on board.

Advanced Active Noise Control is a Nissan world-first: it simultaneously reduces both engine noise and road noise, delivering outstanding cabin quietness.

Interior space is significantly larger than the previous generation. Large windows in the sliding doors, combined with a theater layout that raises the eye point from the first through the third row, create an open and airy feeling.

Every seat is a Zero Gravity Seat. The second-row Zero Gravity Seats are wide enough for an adult to comfortably shift position while resting, and the front passenger seat and both second-row seats’ ottomans can be used simultaneously, three in total - to support a relaxed and long-distance travel. The second-row seats also feature dual reclining: a power articulating seatback that reclines only the upper section, so occupants can keep their head upright while comfortably viewing the in-car monitor or a smartphone.

A Bose ® 22-speaker premium sound system with immersive 3D surround sound transforms the cabin into a theater-like listening space.

Versatile functions, flexible layouts and a large cargo area
The center console includes a wireless fast charger that supports the latest Qi2.0 standard and can charge two smartphones at once, along with a large rear box that can hold a tissue box for rear passengers.

Three 100V AC outlets (1,500W) allow household appliances to be used outdoors or serve backup power in emergency situations.

The rear sliding-door opening has a step that allows small children to board without lifting their feet high, and a large assist grip makes getting in and out easy for a wide range of passengers. A half-open function lets the sliding door open only partway, helps minimize rain entering the cabin when passengers are entering or exiting, or while loading luggage in wet weather.

The third-row seats use a multi-up design that can be folded up and stowed in two positions, front and rear, allowing customers to balance cargo space and passenger room to their needs. In the cargo area, the load-floor height was lowered while widening the tailgate’s opening height and maximum width, making it easier to load and unload large items such as suitcases. With seven occupants on board, the Elgrand can still carry seven carry-on-size suitcases, providing ample space for travel and business trips. Auto tailgate switches are located in the center of the tailgate and on both sides at the rear (D-pillars). This will enable the tailgate to be stopped at any height, a useful feature when space behind the vehicle is limited.

A comprehensive array of advanced driver assistance
For highway driving, the all-new Elgrand is equipped with the ProPILOT driver assistance system, which supports accelerator, brake and steering operations during single-lane highway driving to reduce the driver’s workload. The X e‑4ORCE comes standard with ProPILOT, and the G e‑4ORCE comes standard with ProPILOT with Navi-link, Traffic Jam Hands-Off Mode and Lane Change Support, which enables hands-off driving in congestion. ProPILOT with Navi-link, Traffic Jam Hands-Off Mode and Lane Change Support is also available as an option on the X e‑4ORCE, and ProPILOT 2.0 is available as an option on the G e‑4ORCE.

ProPILOT with Navi-link, Traffic Jam Hands-Off Mode and Lane Change Support enables hands-off driving in congestion at speeds of 50 km/h or below , and adds Lane Change Support at speeds of 60 km/h or above , prompted by the driver’s turn-signal input.

ProPILOT Park with memory function handles parking: as the vehicle approaches a memorized parking spot, a single button automatically controls steering, accelerator, brakes, gear selection and the parking brake.

Intelligent Distance Control with Navi-link reduces driver workload during repeated acceleration, deceleration and stopping by maintaining a constant following distance, slowing to match the vehicle ahead and bringing the vehicle to a stop.

The Intelligent Around View Monitor adds three views: Front Wide View, which helps the driver see left and right ahead at blind-spot-prone intersections; Mirror Close View, which shows the vehicle’s side and rear with the mirrors folded to assist parking; and 3D View, which displays the vehicle’s surroundings in 3D, making it easier to see the area around the vehicle.

NissanConnect infotainment with new services
The NissanConnect infotainment system now features Google built-in *⁴, supporting Google Maps, Google Assistant and Google Play for seamless access to a wide range of information and entertainment. It also includes a vehicle status alert that notifies the driver’s smartphone if a door is left unlocked, the hazard lights are left on or a window is left open, and Remote photo shot, which automatically photographs the area around the vehicle and alerts the smartphone when it detects an impact or other abnormality.

Starting today, Nissan is also adding a new service called “Mimamori Drive” for second-generation NissanConnect members, including Elgrand owners. The service sends real-time notifications to a smartphone regarding driving status of family members and other loved ones to support safe driving. Notifications are sent when the vehicle enters or leaves a preset area or exceeds a specific speed, allowing users to stay informed about daily journeys through the app.
