GTWC heads to Misano for sprint racing and music. 44 cars on track to contest the Sprint Cup
Top-level motorsport and music, sprint races on the track and opportunities to socialise around the circuit. This is what the GT World Challenge Europe promises as it arrives at Misano for the second Sprint Cup event of the season and the fifth round of the championship’s overall calendar. Alongside the BMW M4 GT3 EVO driven by local favourite Valentino Rossi and his team-mate Max Hesse, a further 43 cars will take part in the event, setting a new record for a Sprint Cup meeting. Particular attention will be focused on the Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) EVO of Bastian Buus and Ricardo Feller, winners of the 24 Hours of Spa and leaders of the Sprint Cup standings, and on Nicki Thiim’s Aston Martin, after the Dane claimed two victories at the DTM round at the Norisring in early July. The DTM is another series exclusively supplied by Pirelli.
“Returning to Misano is one of the highlights of our season, both because of the strong public attendance and the technical characteristics of the circuit,” said Matteo Braga, Circuit Activity Manager. “The P Zero DHG tyres will face a demanding workload, particularly because of the heavy decelerations required by the circuit’s 16 corners. The stresses increase especially through the sections where the drivers aim to carry as much speed as possible, with continuous load transfers between the front and rear axles caused by the succession of braking and acceleration phases. Another factor to consider will be the high temperatures expected over the weekend.”
As in the endurance races, cars competing in the Sprint Cup and in the other series supported by Pirelli at the Misano round – the GT2 European Series, GT4 European Series and McLaren Trophy – will have the P Zero DHG available in a range of sizes suited to every GT class. In the event of rain, the crews will instead be able to rely on the Cinturato WHB.
