Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. (Tokyo:4183; President & CEO: ICHIMURA Satoshi; “Mitsui Chemicals”) has decided to integrate its dental 3D printing business and some dental materials business in Japan into its subsidiary, Sun Medical Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Moriyama City, Shiga; President & CEO: SUZUKI Takefumi; “Sun Medical”). Mitsui Chemicals positions Sun Medical as the core of its dental 3D printing business and will continue to strengthen its capabilities.

Kulzer Japan Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo; President: MISAWA Satoshi) will integrate its 3D printer and 3D printing materials business into Sun Medical. Through this integration, the Group will consolidate everything from research, development, and manufacturing of 3D printing materials in Japan to the sales functions of 3D printers and 3D printing materials, into Sun Medical, which has strengths in distribution channels in Japan and also possesses R&D and manufacturing capabilities, establishing a system that handles everything in an integrated manner.

In recent years, with the advancement of digital dentistry, dental technology utilizing 3D printing has been gaining attention. In response to the social issue of a shortage of dental technicians in Japan, expectations are rising for technologies that reduce the burden on dental technicians, shorten production time, and standardize quality.

The Mitsui Chemicals Group has advanced the development, manufacturing, and sales of 3D printers and 3D printing materials as a group, promoting the spread of this market. In 2017, the Group became the first in the world to obtain FDA certification for 3D-printed total denture materials, and has since launched products tailored to market needs. In the Japanese market as well, in 2025, the first domestic 3D-printed full denture fabrication materials were listed for reimbursement under Japan’s public health insurance system *1, and the scope of applicable full dentures was expanded in June 2026, indicating rapid adoption.

Through this integration, the needs of dental professionals will be more rapidly incorporated into research and development activities, accelerating the development and commercialization of market-oriented products, enhancing patient and dental professional satisfaction, and contributing to the advancement of dental care in Japan.

The Mitsui Chemicals Group’s oral care business aims to establish a highly profitable and highly efficient business that will serve as the third pillar of the Life & Healthcare Solutions business. To this end, the Group will maximize the effects of organizational integration and promote growth investments by leveraging the respective products, technologies, and regional strengths of Kulzer, which has strengths in EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa), Ultradent, which has a business foundation in the United States (scheduled to acquire shares in September 2026), the world’s largest healthcare market, and Sun Medical in Japan, among others. In addition, through chemical technologies and Group-wide collaboration, the Group will provide valuable products and services to patients and dental professionals around the world, and aims to transform itself into a solutions provider in the oral care field.
