Airbnb.org commits additional $1M for emergency housing during Los Angeles warehouse fire cleanup
Key Takeaways
- 211 LA and Airbnb.org are partnering to provide free, emergency housing to residents who will be evacuated during the debris cleanup.
- This agreement expands an existing partnership between the two organizations, who are working with the City of Los Angeles and Los Angeles County to connect affected residents with housing support.
- Airbnb.org has already provided more than 1,000 nights of free, emergency housing since the June fire.
Airbnb.org, a nonprofit founded by Airbnb to provide emergency housing in times of crisis, is working with 211 LA, a nonprofit serving as LA County’s 24/7 information and referral service provider, to expand free, emergency housing resources to residents who will be evacuated amid ongoing cleanup efforts after a warehouse fire in Los Angeles.
Airbnb.org is committing an additional $1 million to provide free, emergency housing to displaced residents who live near the warehouse. This is in addition to $600,000 of housing support provided to those affected since the June fire. Stays are free for guests and are funded by Airbnb.org and the generosity of donors.
Already, Airbnb.org has provided more than 1,000 nights of free, emergency housing to local residents since the fire, including many with medical conditions who could not stay in their homes for their own safety.
Through this response, 211 LA is identifying eligible Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles residents in the immediate area near the warehouse and booking stays through Airbnb.org on their behalf.
Displaced residents will be provided with an Airbnb stay that meets their needs, including staying near their workplace, school, family, or support network.
Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles residents in the impacted area can dial 2-1-1 to get help navigating available resources, including Airbnb.org housing support.
“We’re grateful to partner with the city and county of Los Angeles and 211 LA to continue helping people in need as the response efforts move into their next phase,” said Christoph Gorder, Executive Director of Airbnb.org. “This is a continuation of our longstanding commitment to Los Angeles, and our partnership with 211 LA, which enables us to respond quickly to help people when disaster strikes.”
“When the Boyle Heights fire reignited on June 19, 2026, 211 LA responded the same way we did during the 2025 LA wildfires—immediately. Within hours, we connected displaced residents with our Airbnb.org partners. Within five days, 892 people and 178 pets had emergency housing,” said Maribel Marin, Executive Director of 211 LA . “We bring experience, trusted partnerships, and a pledge to meet residents where they are. From our 24/7 helpline to our teams working directly in Boyle Heights, we are actively helping affected households navigate emergency housing and other resources. Airbnb.org’s additional commitment allows us to mobilize quickly and carry on this work to make sure displaced residents get timely, caring support throughout the cleanup process.”
“The fire has had a significant impact on residents throughout East Los Angeles and Boyle Heights, disrupting daily life and creating ongoing challenges as families cope with cleanup efforts, lingering odors, and uncertainty about when they can fully return to their normal routines,” said Los Angeles County Board Chair and First District Supervisor Hilda L. Solis. “My priority is making sure residents have access to the resources and support they need during this recovery process, including temporary housing for those who require it. I appreciate the partnership of Airbnb.org, 211 LA, and our community partners in helping meet immediate needs, and my office remains focused on ensuring residents have the support and information they need as this response continues.”
Anyone interested in supporting those impacted by the Boyle Heights warehouse fire has two ways to help:
- Donate to Airbnb.org. 100 percent of donations go directly toward connecting people in crisis with emergency housing.
- Donate to 211 LA, which has been tracking resident needs and working with community partners to rapidly deploy supplies to those unable to secure what they need.
This response builds on Airbnb.org and 211 LA’s ongoing partnership to help people displaced by disasters across Los Angeles County access temporary housing. Since formalizing the partnership in January, the two nonprofits have worked together to provide emergency housing support for people impacted by local disasters, including the Bell Gardens apartment complex explosion and the Palisades and Eaton wildfires, which displaced thousands of residents in January 2025.
The partnership is also part of 211 LA’s broader Crisis Care Plan Alliance (CCPA) Partnership, which strengthens coordinated crisis response and helps connect people to timely, trusted support during emergencies.
Airbnb.org is a nonprofit organization founded by Airbnb that connects people to free emergency housing in times of crisis. Airbnb.org pays for stays, leverages the Airbnb platform, and taps into Airbnb’s global community of hosts willing to share their homes with those in need. Airbnb covers all Airbnb.org’s operating costs and makes no money on Airbnb.org stays. This means 100% of donations directly fund stays for people in need of emergency housing. Since 2020, Airbnb.org has provided 1.6 million nights of free, temporary housing in nearly 140 countries around the world.
