Lucy Dacus has released the self-directed music video for her latest track “Planting Tomatoes” following an intimate screening last night in New York City.

The music video was shot entirely in Lucy’s beloved hometown of Richmond, VA, and serves as a visual journey through many of Lucy’s favorite places (Dogwood Dell, Hollywood Cemetery, James River Park Pony Pasture, and friends’ houses). “Planting Tomatoes” honors the effort to stay present, grateful, and interested while remembering that life ends, for yourself and those you love.

The video was filmed by the local productive team SpangTV and creative director Jordan Rodericks, who previously worked alongside Lucy, and DP David Muessig, on the “Hot & Heavy” music video, and edited by Laura Colwell of the band Sun June. The video features students from the local youth performing arts group SPARC, Lucy’s father, and many of her friends.

There will be a special screening of the music video at The Byrd Theatre in Richmond, VA on July 30th, followed by a Q&A with Lucy moderated by SPARC’s Sr. Faculty member Paul Major. The event is sold-out, but fans can join the waitlist here: http://lucydacus.lnk.to/plantingtomatoesscreenings. The new Planting Tomatoes 7″ [Green] vinyl will also launch exclusively on Lucy’s webstore.

Throughout the summer, Dacus will headline shows in Madison, Grand Rapids, Toronto, Cleveland, Kingston, NY, Mass MoCa, Asbury Park and more, as part of her largest tour to date, while also stopping along festivals such as Outside Lands and Bumbershoot. The tour also includes two special symphony shows, one with the Chicago Philharmonic (at Millennium Park with local heroes Ratboys) and one with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra (at the Hollywood Bowl with Cat Power performing The Greatest). Both shows will feature never-before-heard orchestral arrangements of Dacus’ songs from her latest album Forever Is A Feeling and throughout her critically-acclaimed discography. For each headlining show, Dacus will continue her partnership with The Ally Coalition (TAC) to ensure that $1 from every ticket sold will go to organizations serving queer and trans youth across North America. See below for full tour routing.
