100+ Improvements to WeTransfer

Here at WeTransfer, we believe file sharing should just work just like that. *snaps fingers*

That’s why we think about your WeTransfer experience obsessively, day-in and day-out…so you never have to.

Over the past few months, we’ve improved every part of the experience for both file senders and recipients. All together, we released more than 100 new features and updates to WeTransfer. (Well, 109 to be exact, but our copywriters told us 100+ sounds better.)

The important thing isn’t the number, though. It’s that together, these changes make file sharing smoother than ever, so you can focus on everything else you’ve got going on.

That said, this milestone wouldn’t be possible without you, our users. These improvements are inspired by the hundreds of user interviews where you asked: “Can you add this?” Yes—yes we can. 😍

We’ll cover the highlights below—but if you’re more of a “show the receipts person”, you can jump straight to the end for the full list of 109 improvements.

More than 180 million Previews have been opened since launch… that’s a lot of files not sitting in downloads. Previews make sharing feel lighter for recipients, while giving you more clarity and control behind the scenes. Here’s what makes Previews an essential part of your workflow (regardless if you’re the one sending or receiving the files):

• See files instantly before committing to a download. That means you can browse through hundreds of photos, videos, or documents, save the ones you need, and skip the rest.
  
  
• Keep full control. Choose whether or not receivers can download the files, or just look at the previews. For more detailed logs, send a Tracked and Restricted transfer to see who viewed or downloaded your files.
  
  
• Collaborate directly in Previews. Enable favorites and comments in your Preview settings so recipients can reply directly to individual files inside the Preview (so long DMs of random screenshots, we won’t miss you).
  
  

What started as sharing a sneak peek quickly became one of the most loved parts of WeTransfer, and we’re just getting started. We’re continuing to refine and expand Previews, so that sharing files and gathering feedback will feel even easier in the future.

Your personal style is what sets your work apart—the way you share it should reflect that too. That’s why we’ve made the transfer experience more personalized, so every send becomes an extension of your work.

Whether you’re sending selects from your latest shoot or final assets for a campaign, you can customize each transfer with branded elements or a custom theme that matches your audience.

More ways to make your transfers your own:

• Generate pre-filled transfer links
• Add custom titles directly from your brand settings
• Add video backgrounds to transfers and your brand page
• Arrange up to 6 images in a custom background grid
• Switch between solid colors and image backgrounds

Because at the end of the day, the transfer window is your storefront, so it only makes sense that it should be as polished, professional, and unique as your work.

Sharing your work doesn’t always look the same. Sometimes you want to get as many eyes on it as possible. Sometimes you want to make sure it’s only seen by a select few.

With access controls, you can make that decision on a per-transfer basis. Keep your transfers maximally private by requiring email verification and limiting access to specific recipients—think of it as a VIP list for your files. You’ll be notified when your files are viewed or downloaded, so you always know what’s happening.

If plans change, you’re not locked into your original send list. You can add or remove recipients from a restricted transfer even after it’s been sent.

We’ve spent a lot of time smoothing out the little things too.

Here are some highlights:

• We now start uploading your files the moment you add them to the transfer window—that way, they’re ready to transfer instantly once you hit ’send’.
  
  
• New transfer folders keep things more organized—sort by project, client, or whatever works for you.
  
  
• Now, create contact groups to make sharing with the usual suspects a whole lot faster. No more typing the same email addresses for the hundredth time.
  
  
• Browser notifications let you check download progress, even when you’re in another tab.
  
  
• New notification settings help keep your inbox in check, so you only get the emails you actually want.
