More than $21 million recovered from noncompliant tax filers since inception of data warehouse program
DAYTON, Ohio - The State of Missouri Department of Treasury, Division of Taxation, today announced that during the last 14 days of March 2007, the state recovered $2.2 million from noncompliant tax filers. The recovery was due to the state’s taxation data warehouse with global enterprise data warehouse leader Teradata, a division of NCR Government Systems LLC, which is owned by NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR). Nearly $21 million has been recovered since the program began in early 2005.

“We would not have been able to collect the amount of noncompliant tax dollars without the partnership with Teradata,” said Maura Browning, Missouri Department of Revenue. “Currently we are focusing on improved compliance in the individual income tax, sales tax, employer withholding and corporate/franchise tax areas.”

The $2.2 million that the state collected during the 14-day time period is the equivalent of each taxpayer within Missouri’s state capital, Jefferson City, paying $114.29 to the taxation department. The $21 million collected since the program’s inception is equivalent to each corporate business in Missouri paying an additional $273 in taxes.

“Missouri is an excellent example of governments and businesses embracing the idea of a centralized enterprise data warehouse,” said Steven Taylor, director, revenue and compliance team, NCR Government Systems Corporation, Teradata Division. “Federal, state and local governments are learning and implementing best practices from the private sector.”

Teradata Tax Solutions are based on the Teradata Data Warehouse in combination with professional services and programs. Included are Revenue Opportunity Assessment, which identifies recoverable revenue by tax type and produces accurate revenue recovery projections; Tax Discovery, which is used in the discovery of noncompliant leads; and the Case Management Component, an integrated application that manages, tracks and assists in resolution of all leads for tax compliance and revenue recovery produced with the solution. In addition, Teradata Warehouse Miner is used for ranking and scoring the leads.

Teradata has helped state governments discover thousands of noncompliant individual and business taxpayers, optimize enforcement resources, improve access to information to better equip state case workers and better serve taxpayers as well as to reduce the effects on compliant citizens.

Teradata has partnered with The Sartell Group on this project.
