New mob: Sulfur cubes

Meet Minecraft’s most unpredictable mob! “Sulfur cubes” are passive mobs found in the new sulfur caves. They might look like they spend their time aimlessly jumping around their home, but once you feed them a block (either by hand, or by leaving one nearby) something incredible happens.

Sulfur cubes can absorb lots of different blocks, and these blocks all have different effects on the sulfur cube’s physical properties. Some will make the sulfur cube bounce, sink, slide, and more. Experiment with lots of different blocks to discover all the different effects you can unlock (and don’t forget about TNT or magma!).

If you meet a sulfur cube you want to keep as a friend, you can attach it to a leash or scoop it up with a bucket. Or perhaps feed it a bouncy wool block and aim carefully towards your base…!

New cave: Sulfur caves

Sulfur caves are the native biomes of sulfur cubes, but you’ll find more than just this mob inside them. Aside from a slew of hostile mobs, sulfur caves also feature colorful sulfur and cinnabar blocks for building, as well as sulfur spikes. Sulfur spikes are pointy blocks that (unlike pointed dripstone) won’t hurt you, despite their sharp appearance.

Look out for sulfur springs and geysers on the surface of the Overworld – as these give you a clue that a sulfur cave is beneath. Sulfur springs may look inviting, but these bubbly bodies of water are blanketed in noxious sulfurous gases that cause Nausea in both players and mobs. Geysers act much like their real-life counterparts: they shoot water upwards at high pressure. Either watch your step or be prepared for flight if you step onto a geyser!

Potent sulfur and new block sets

Potent sulfur is the reason why sulfur springs are so bubbly (and noxious) and geysers are so explosive. Placed directly underneath water, potent sulfur will create bubbles and puffs of gas. When it generates (or is placed) on top of a magma block, and both blocks are submerged in water, a geyser can form! Just make sure there aren’t more than four blocks of water above them.

Music disc

Chaos Cubed also brings the appropriately named Bounce music disc! Featuring a track that will have you hopping around like a hungry sulfur cube, you have a chance of finding this music disc inside chests located in mineshafts that intersect with sulfur caves.

Update your game now to meet the sulfur cube, explore the sulfur caves, build with new blocks, and more!
