Mattel Celebrates International Day of Play with Global Volunteer Week and New Charitable Partnerships

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. – WEBWIRE

Mattel, Inc. (NASDAQ: MAT), a leading global play and family entertainment company and owner of one of the most iconic brand portfolios in the world, this month is celebrating its third annual International Day of Play and sixth annual Play it Forward Global Volunteer Week. From volunteer activities and community partnerships to immersive play experiences, Mattel and its partners are bringing joy to hundreds of children and families across Los Angeles and around the world.

A cornerstone of Play It Forward Global Volunteer Week, Camp Mattel welcomed approximately 700 children from local elementary schools, the Children’s Institute of Los Angeles, the Wiley Institute, Athletes in the Making and the Friendship Foundation to Mattel headquarters for a day of active play and imagination. Mattel employees volunteered throughout the event, helping bring the experience to life through games, activities, and hands-on engagement. The day also featured a soccer clinic hosted in partnership with the Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC).

“Play is one of the most powerful ways children build confidence, creativity, and meaningful connections,” said Nancy Molenda, Vice President, Global Corporate Events and Philanthropy, Mattel. “Through Play It Forward and our International Day of Play celebrations, we’re bringing together our employees, brands, and partners to create joyful experiences for deserving children worldwide. We’re proud to see our global teams unite around this shared commitment to making a positive impact through the power of play.”

Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell attended Camp Mattel in recognition of International Day of Play and its role in promoting childhood wellness. The City of El Segundo also formally recognized June 11 as International Day of Play and June 1–5 as Mattel’s Play It Forward Volunteer Week.

As part of Play It Forward Global Volunteer Week, Mattel advanced its commitment to inclusive play through the launch of Hot Wheels® All Drivers Welcome, a vehicle assortment developed in partnership with nonprofit organizations to increase representation and celebrate diverse communities. The collection includes vehicles created alongside the Braille Institute, Easterseals Disability Services, and Starlight Children’s Foundation.

This year’s Play It Forward programming also spotlighted Mattel’s collaboration with global humanitarian organization Save the Children, Amazon, and Amazon MGM Studios in support of the Masters of the Universe film, released in theaters on June 5. The collaboration includes a public service campaign, an Amazon Wish List program that enables consumers to donate Mattel toys to underserved children, and participation in Amazon’s Global Volunteer Month. Additional opportunities to support Save the Children through toy donations and financial contributions will continue throughout the summer.

Mattel employees worldwide participated in Play It Forward through volunteer efforts in their local communities, including building homes with Habitat for Humanity, donating toys and time to children’s hospitals, and supporting Ronald McDonald House programs around the globe.

Mattel also partnered with Project Sunshine for its inaugural Summer Solstice Play-A-Thon at the Mattel Toy Store in El Segundo. The activation featured surprise toy-filled blind bags and underscored the power of play in supporting children’s emotional well-being, celebrating Project Sunshine’s mission to bring joy, comfort, and meaningful connections to children facing medical challenges.
