Wiley Launches Advanced Brain to Push Disciplinary Boundaries Across Neuroscience & Related Fields
The new open access, interdisciplinary journal is dedicated to publishing cutting-edge research and fostering dialogue across the brain-mind continuum
Wiley (NYSE: WLY), a global leader in authoritative content and research intelligence, today announced the launch of Advanced Brain, an open access, interdisciplinary journal dedicated to publishing cutting-edge research across neuroscience, neurology, psychiatry and psychology. The new journal, part of Wiley’s Advanced Portfolio of high-impact collaborative journals, is now open for submissions.
Advanced Brain is designed to further both fundamental and applied understanding of the human brain, providing a broad-scope platform for researchers studying the brain from various angles and fostering dialogue across life, medical and behavioral sciences.
This launch is part of Wiley’s previously announced expansion of the Advanced Portfolio, which is designed to empower scientists and make publishing easier for researchers through a streamlined, collaborative approach. The expansion reflects Wiley’s commitment to accelerating science that addresses humanity’s most pressing challenges across a wide range of disciplines.
Advanced Brain is the fourth new journal to launch this year—following Advanced Chemical Engineering, Advanced Oncology, and Advanced Computing—with more journal launches planned in 2026 and additional titles to follow in subsequent years.
Antonia Eisenkoeck is the editor-in-chief of Advanced Brain. Eisenkoeck brings extensive experience in high-level scientific publishing to the journal, previously holding editing roles at The Lancet Neurology and Nature Portfolio. She earned her PhD in psychology from Goldsmiths, University of London.
“The brain is one of the most complex systems in nature—yet research across its disciplines has too often remained siloed,” said Eisenkoeck. “Advanced Brain exists to change that. We want to be the home where a discovery in basic neuroscience can sit alongside a clinical trial, a population study or a new framework for understanding the mind, accelerating the kind of research that shapes knowledge, clinical practice and policy, ultimately improving the lives of people and communities worldwide.”
“The Advanced Portfolio was built on the premise that the most transformative science happens at the intersection of disciplines, when communities come together to share knowledge,” said Allyn Molina, group vice president of publishing development at Wiley. “Advanced Brain embodies that vision and brings us closer to our goal of offering every researcher in every discipline access to the same trusted, high-impact publishing experience that Advanced journals have been delivering for decades.”
The new journal spans the full brain-mind continuum—from molecular and cellular mechanisms to cognitive processes, neuroimaging, computational approaches and translational and clinical applications—bridging basic science, systems neuroscience and clinical research. It will cover specific topics such as:
- Neurodegenerative diseases
- Stroke and brain injury
- Pain and sensory disorders
- Mental health and psychiatric disorders
- Neuroinflammation and neuroimmunology
Advanced Brain is guided by an editorial advisory board of leading academics spanning the full spectrum of the brain sciences—neuroscience, neurology, psychiatry, and psychology—and affiliated with institutions worldwide, including the University of Oxford (UK), Harvard University (USA), Fudan University (China), the University of Hong Kong, the University of Oslo (Norway), and others.
The Advanced Portfolio, anchored by flagship interdisciplinary journal Advanced Science and the world-renowned Advanced Materials, has earned the trust of the global research community through a distinctive editorial approach built on close collaboration between authors and editors. Researchers submit their work once, and professional editors work together across the portfolio’s journals to find the best fit for each manuscript, eliminating unnecessary resubmission and reformatting cycles and ensuring every paper reaches its highest-impact home.
Wiley also recently added new titles to the portfolio in emerging areas at the intersection of AI and science, including Advanced Intelligent Discovery and Advanced Robotics Research. The new journals mark the portfolio’s continued evolution from its origins as a materials science specialist into a comprehensive, multidisciplinary collection spanning the physical, life, health, and social sciences.
