WEBWIRE

Flight 176 is the 32nd Ariane 5 launch and the second in 2007. An ARIANE 5 ECA (Cryogenic Evolution type A), the most powerful version in the ARIANE 5 range, will be used for this flight.

This will be the 28th commercial mission for Ariane 5. Launcher 536, the 28th production phase Ariane 5, is the first of the 30 PA contract launchers, for which EADS Astrium is production prime contractor. 536 is consequently the seventh complete launcher to be delivered to Arianespace, integrated and checked out under EADS Astrium responsibility in the Launcher Integration Building (BIL).

In a multi-payload configuration using the SYLDA 5 “A” (extended by 1500 mm) system and a long pattern fairing, the launcher is carrying, on behalf of two of the largest worldwide telecommunications operators, ASTRA 1L for SES-ASTRA in the upper position and GALAXY 17 for INTELSAT in the lower position.
