Cherise Eden built a seemingly perfect life as a successful Silicon Valley executive. Then everything breaks at once. She reinvents herself in France as the owner of Chateau Roufillay, a refined bed-and-breakfast in the Dordogne. There, she meets Francois Delacroix, a charismatic guest who draws her in while carrying a past he keeps hidden.

Across the channel, retired Scotland Yard detective Brett Maxfield confronts a brutal death. His old friend, Sir Raleigh Aubrey, dies when his wheelchair plunges down the grand staircase of his manor home, Brightingham. Brett refuses to accept the official story. He follows a chain of unsettling clues from England to Switzerland and Bordeaux, and the trail leads him to Roufillay.

As lives and lies entangle, Cherise finds herself trapped in escalating danger. She needs an ally, but trust comes with its own risks. Brett arrives with questions, experience, and a determination to expose the truth. The novel drives toward a central tension that refuses to loosen. About the Author

Sherry Joyce brings a dynamic blend of corporate, creative, and design experience to her fiction. As a former Silicon Valley Vice President of Human Resources, she spent years writing and editing in technical and creative contexts, including product marketing and serving as editor-in-chief of high-tech company newsletters. Allied A.S.I.D. and N.K.B.A. credentialed, she owns SJDESIGNS INTERIORS. Her award-winning projects and articles have appeared in Gentry, Builder Architect, California Home and Design, National Kitchen and Bath, and the university textbook Fundamentals of Interior Design.

She launched her design business in 2000 and continues working with clients and custom builders in the Sacramento, El Dorado Hills, and Folsom area, as well as Wilton, Fair Oaks, Fairfield, Tahoe, the San Francisco Bay Area, Carmel Valley, Palm Desert, and Dallas, Texas.

She graduated from Bryant Stratton College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and completed her design education at Canada College in Redwood City, California. She is a member of Sacramento Sisters in Crime, California Writers Club, Northern California Publishers and

Authors, San Francisco Women’s Book Association, and Romance Writers of America. In 2016, she served as a judge for the Top of the Mountain Book Awards in Colorado.

Joyce conceived her debut novel, “The Dordogne Deception,” after lightning struck the tower of the French chateau where she was vacationing. She was writing postcards in the turret at the time. In 2017, she released “Dangerous Duplicity,” a romantic suspense novel set in El Dorado Hills, California, Tribeca, New York, and the Côte d’Azur, France.

She also writes for Behind the Gates magazine and The Hills Living, operates Sherry Joyce Creative Writing Services to support luxury market realtors, and serves as a Board Director of EDAC, The Eldorado Arts Council.

Her short story Cozumel Calamity appeared in “Our Dance With Words - A Collection of Fine Writing,” published by Northern California Publishers and Authors, and Murder by Conclusion was published in 2016 by Sisters In Crime, Sacramento. She is currently working on a sequel to “Dangerous Duplicity,” which received a 5-star review from Readers’ Favorite.
