Lyles, Nurse Named Players of the Week

Kia Nurse and Trey Lyles have been named Players of the Week for May. 18-24

In her seventh WNBA season and the inaugural season of the Toronto Tempo, 6 ’0 guard Kia Nurse of Hamilton, Ont., recorded a season high on the road against the Minnesota Lynx. Nurse scored 23 points in 27 minutes, knocking down six three pointers while shooting over 50% from beyond the arc. She also made an impact on both ends of the floor with 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal. Following a four game road trip, the Tempo returned home for a matchup against fellow expansion franchise, the Portland Fire. Nurse continues to demonstrate her leadership as the season picks up, helping guide the Tempo through their inaugural campaign while continuing to set the tone with her veteran presence and experience. Kia last suited up for Canada with the Senior Women’s National Team at the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup qualifying tournament in Istanbul, Turkey, in March.

Born in Saskatoon, Sask., 6 ’9 power forward Trey Lyles had an impressive season with Real Madrid Baloncesto, advancing all the way to the EuroLeague Final Four and championship game against Olympiacos B.C… In the Final Four, Lyles averaged 21 points and 8 rebounds, making a major impact on both ends of the floor. In Real Madrid’s semifinal matchup against Valencia Basket, Lyles led his team to victory with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Although Real Madrid fell short in the championship game against Olympiacos, Lyles delivered another standout performance with 24 points and 8 rebounds, shooting 5 for 6 from three point range. Dominating throughout the first half of the championship game, Lyles proved to be one of the most impactful players during the Final Four competition in Athens.Trey last suited up for Canada with the Senior Men’s National Team at the Paris Olympic in 2024.
