Annual Maintenance of the Zwanenburgbaan Runway from 18 to 27 May
From Monday 18 May to Wednesday 27 May, Schiphol will carry out its annual routine maintenance on the Zwanenburgbaan runway. During this period, the runway will be unavailable for air traffic on weekdays. During the weekend and Monday 25 May, the Zwanenburgbaan will remain available. Aircraft that would normally take off from or land on the Zwanenburgbaan will use other runways during the maintenance period, primarily the Polderbaan and Kaagbaan.
What does the maintenance involve?
Annual maintenance is essential to keep the runways in good condition and safe for air traffic. On the Zwanenburgbaan, repairs will be made to the asphalt and markings. Electrical systems and cabling will be inspected, the stormwater drainage system will be flushed at various locations, surrounding grass areas will be mown, and lights will be cleaned or replaced. The work will be carried out in collaboration with construction company Heijmans.
Renewal of taxiways A and B
The maintenance of the Zwanenburgbaan coincides with the renewal of two important taxiways : Taxiways A and B. These taxiways are used by aircraft taxiing to and from the runways, including the Zwanenburgbaan. By carrying out these works during the same period, Schiphol can limit disruption for local residents and passengers as much as possible.
Use of Alternative Runways
During the maintenance period, air traffic will make increased use of other runways, in particular the Polderbaan and Kaagbaan. Depending on wind conditions, the Buitenveldertbaan or Schiphol-Oostbaan may also be used. As a result, more aircraft may temporarily fly over the flight paths associated with these runways. We are aware that this may have an impact on local residents. That is why we plan runway maintenance carefully and do everything we can to carry it out as efficiently as possible.
