San Francisco Chronicle & The Dallas Morning News Win Pulitzer Prizes

Columbia University announced the 2026 Pulitzer Prizes, awarded on the recommendation of the Pulitzer Prize Board:

In the Explanatory Reporting category: Susie Neilson, Megan Fan Munce and Sara DiNatale of the San Francisco Chronicle

"For their series “Burned,” which showed how insurance companies using algorithmic tools have failed Californians who lost their homes to fire by systematically undervaluing their properties, denying claims and making it impossible for them to rebuild"

In the Criticism category: Mark Lamster, architecture critic of The Dallas Morning News

“For his rigorous and passionate architecture criticism, using wit and expertise to amplify his opinions and advocate for city residents.”

The San Francisco Chronicle (Cynthia Dizikes and Joaquin Palomino) was named a finalist in Investigative Reporting as well as in Feature Photography (Gabrielle Lurie).

Reflecting the company’s commitment to authoritative journalism, on April 23, Hearst Television’s KMBC-TV, Kansas City, Mo. won a Peabody Award for its Chronicle investigation Restrained.
