Polo on the Prairie Celebrates 21 Years

WEBWIRE

World-ranked polo players and more than 1,000 guests will gather May 5 at the Musselman Brothers’ Lazy 3 Ranch for the 21st annual Polo on the Prairie. The family-friendly U.S. Polo Association-sanctioned competition has raised more than $3 million for key research and patient care programs at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. Players, co-chairs Melinda and Henry Musselman, and M. D. Anderson leadership will be on hand throughout the day for interviews.

Polo on the Prairie began in the mid-1980s as a way to spread awareness of M. D. Anderson, raise funds for the institution and pay tribute to all whom cancer has touched. Amateur and professional athletes donate time, equipment and horses to the event. A weeklong curriculum at nearby Eastland and Woodson schools teaches sixth-graders about polo as well as M. D. Anderson patient care, research, education and prevention programs.

2007 Polo on the Prairie proceeds will go to M. D. Anderson’s Science Park/Library, Anderson Network Hospitality Rooms, Chaplaincy and Clinical Pastoral Education and the Cancer Metastasis Research Center.
