Get the most out of Pokémon Pokopia with these helpful tips!
The Pokémon™ Pokopia game has been out for the Nintendo Switch™ 2 system for some time—many of you are just starting out (welcome!) and many have already put in quite a bit of time (thank you!).
If you’re looking for tips, the first section of this article is for beginners, while the second is for players who are further in the game. Advanced players may already know this stuff, but please stick around if you want a small refresher!
Before we dive in, there’s something very important to remember: Pokémon Pokopia is ultimately about doing things that you find fun at your own pace. Don’t feel pressured to play a certain way or be intimidated by the elaborate towns other people make. Instead, focus on what you’re making and be proud of your personal progress. The Pokémon will be happy you’re there to help—and will help you in return!
Beginner tipsProgression-
There are some incentives for checking in daily at a Pokémon Center PC—you can access daily challenges, buy items and recipes at the PC shop, and collect stamps that can be exchanged for Life Coins. The rarity of the stamp also affects how many coins you get; pay attention to the border around each stamp for an idea which are rarer.
-
You may want to prioritize getting bag upgrades like the Packing Tips and Handy Bag items, as well as PP Up items whenever they appear in the PC shop. They can make your life a bit easier in the long run!
-
Talk to all the Pokémon you have befriended, especially if they seem to be pondering something. This may lead to additional requests.
-
If you’re looking for a quick way to travel to different towns, building a home for Ditto can help. This unlocks a quick way to travel back to a town via the main menu.
-
Don’t forget about building kits if you want to easily build structures. These are great for folks who prefer decorating more than one building.
-
You can also build a house from scratch! Just place four walls that are at least one block high, add a door, and place three furniture items inside. You can build up from there and use it as a framework to create some interesting buildings—like a library or an indoor garden.
-
Early in the game, you may want to organize similar items into separate storage boxes. This may make finding certain items easier later on.
-
Hold the X Button when your bag is open to sort your items. You can also sort the items in your storage boxes this way.
-
Place a storage box right next to a workbench to use the materials in that box while crafting.
-
The Pokédex and Habitat Dex are your friends! Don’t sleep on the filter function either—by pressing the Y Button, you can use it to identify Pokémon with specific specialties, filter by Pokémon in the area you’re currently in, and focus on what habitats to build.
-
If you’ve lost track of where a Pokémon is, open the Pokédex, select that Pokémon, and press the + Button to search for them. While searching, talk to other Pokémon to get pointed in the right direction. If you talk to a Pokémon with the Fly or Teleport specialty, they’ll take you directly to them. Finally, you can use honey on a Pokémon’s home to get them to return there.
-
Try using mouse controls with your Joy-Con™ 2 controllers. You may prefer the added range and control.
-
The more you build and craft, the more materials you’ll need. Dream Islands are some of the best places you can visit to stock up on materials without altering your town’s topography.
-
Cook up some food to power up Ditto’s moves. Powering up Leafage, for example, can lead to interesting effects—you can use it on different surfaces to create different plants, such as moss on stone or vines on walls.
-
Don’t forget about Strength after you learn it! You can hold the A Button to use Strength to push and pull certain objects. This can be very handy while decorating.
-
Did you know you can customize certain items? If you bring berries to a Pokémon that has the Crush specialty, they can make paint for you. Then, you can bring the paint to Smearguru to change the colors and patterns on certain items. If you find items with a pattern while exploring, don’t forget to visit Smearguru—they can learn and apply it on more items in the future!
-
Change your look at any time by examining an item that has a mirror.
Phew, that was a lot, and we still only scratched the surface. You can buy the game or add it to your Wish List at the link below!
