Scholastic’s research was used to show how preteens and teenagers are reading less, which means they have less time to practice—stunting the opportunity for growth.

Actress and author Tatyana Ali visited Shirley Elementary, part of Jackson Elementary Schools, this year’s Richard M. Robinson Literacy Champion, where each student received their own signed copy of her debut children’s book, Aszi and the Octopus, which is part of Scholastic’s Rising Voices Libraries.

Students in Philadelphia received a visit from Clifford the Big Red Dog and a signed copy of Kaepernick’s book as part of the event.
