Scholastic Education in the News: New Research, Author Visits and Book Deliveries

Scholastic Education programs are making an impact across the country! Over the past few weeks, several initiatives have been featured in numerous publications. From author visits to research, read below to learn how the Scholastic Education team continues to be at the forefront of positive change both in and out of the classroom.

• New Research: The Hechinger Report mentioned a recent Scholastic Whitepaper in an article about reformed reading curriculum. Read the full article here.

The Hechinger Report included data from the Scholastic Whitepaper Students Are Reading Less and Losing Stamina: Why Sustained Reading Matters More Than Ever in their recent article about reading curriculum in southern states. Scholastic’s research was used to show how preteens and teenagers are reading less, which means they have less time to practice—stunting the opportunity for growth.

• Jackson, MS: Tatyana Ali visits schools to read from her debut children’s book, Aszi and the Octopus. Check out this clip from WLBT-TV.

Actress and author Tatyana Ali visited Shirley Elementary, part of Jackson Elementary Schools, this year’s Richard M. Robinson Literacy Champion, where each student received their own signed copy of her debut children’s book, Aszi and the Octopus, which is part of Scholastic’s Rising Voices Libraries.

• New Haven, CT: High schools receive hundreds of books in an exciting collaboration. Check out this coverage from the New Haven Independent and WTNH-TV.

New Haven Public High Schools received an exciting delivery of Scholastic books, showcasing the district’s investment in providing students with daily access to rich, relevant, and engaging texts. The books will fill more than 70 classrooms across 10 high schools.

• Philadelphia, PA: Colin Kaepernick reads from his new children’s book, I Color Myself Different. Learn more about his visit here.

Author, activist and former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick virtually read his children’s book I Color Myself Different, published by Scholastic, to students as part of the launch of Lumi, his new AI storytelling platform. Students in Philadelphia received a visit from Clifford the Big Red Dog and a signed copy of Kaepernick’s book as part of the event.
