ACCIONA and Real Betis begin redevelopment work at Benito Villamarín Stadium

The project includes the construction of a new Preferencia stand, an adjoining mixed-use building, and several levels of underground parking

ACCIONA and Real Betis Balompié have begun the first phase of Benito Villamarín Stadium’s redevelopment, a project that will transform this facility into a modern, higher-capacity venue for Seville.

The project will be carried out in several phases. This first phase includes excavation work and the installation of a retaining system using diaphragm walls, required for the construction of the below-grade levels. In parallel, over the coming months, both parties will continue to refine the project’s technical approach and optimize its final design under a collaborative delivery model, in which Real Betis Balompié and ACCIONA work as a single team to develop the best solutions for the project.

The second phase will involve the construction of the new stadium, including the new Preferencia stand, upgrades to the existing stands — Gol Norte, Fondo, and Gol Sur — as well as the development of an adjoining mixed-use building. The project also includes several levels of underground parking, together with a new roof and façade for the stadium as a whole.

The works will be carried out in an urban setting while maintaining traffic flow, so work planning will take traffic, mobility, and construction noise management into account, with the aim of minimizing the impact on the surrounding Heliópolis neighborhood.

Through this project, Real Betis and ACCIONA are transforming Benito Villamarín Stadium into a leading urban and sports landmark in Seville, incorporating new architectural solutions, enhanced functionality, advanced technology, and a significant improvement in the fan experience.

A BENCHMARK IN SUSTAINABILITY

Three years ago, ACCIONA completed the new Real Betis training complex in Dos Hermanas, near Seville, which includes several soccer fields and training areas, as well as shared locker room areas and a multifunctional building housing offices, a gym, medical services, and meeting rooms. The company also delivered an additional building for maintenance and access control and other road works connected to the complex, in addition to urban development works in the surrounding area.

The Rafael Gordillo Training Complex was a pioneer in sustainability, in line with the Seville-based club’s Forever Green project, which placed particular emphasis on bioclimatic design, natural ventilation, efficiency measures, water reuse, the use of renewable energy, landscape integration, and low maintenance, among other factors.

ACCIONA has extensive experience in the development of complex, high-capacity public infrastructure, including sports facilities such as the new San Mamés Stadium for Athletic Club de Bilbao and the new training complex for Club Deportivo Tenerife.
