This weekend, Airbnb and the FIFA World Cup 2026™ Houston Host Committee brought together hundreds of local youth soccer players, families, and community leaders and successfully set the Guinness World Records® title for the longest continuous line of soccer balls. The record-breaking attempt, held at Hermann Park along the city’s Green Corridor, featured more than 1,000 soccer balls lined up across one of Houston’s most iconic public spaces.
The milestone moment was led by local youth participants from leagues and non-profit organizations across Houston, alongside FIFA World Cup™ legend DaMarcus Beasley, Houston native and artist Bun B, Houston-area elected officials, and was officially verified on-site by an official Guinness World Records® adjudicator.
The event marked a celebration of Airbnb’s more than $1 million investment in Houston through its FIFA Host City Impact Program, supporting local initiatives including Impact Houston 26’s Green Corridor and the Grow the Game program. Airbnb’s Host City Impact Program is a $5 million global commitment to support initiatives across FIFA World Cup 2026™ Host Cities, helping ensure the tournament delivers lasting benefits for local communities.
“Today’s event is about more than breaking a world record, it’s about celebrating Houston and investing in its future,” said Laura Spanjian, Airbnb’s Head of Global Public Policy. “As the world prepares to come to Houston for the FIFA World Cup 2026, we’re proud to support programs that ensure local communities, especially young people, can be part of that moment in a meaningful and lasting way.”
Following the successful attempt, all of the more than 1,000 soccer balls used in the record were donated to Grow the Game, a collaboration between the FIFA World Cup 2026™ Houston Host Committee and the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority Foundation. The initiative aims to expand access to soccer for underserved youth across Houston through free and low-cost programming, including clinics, tournaments, and pathways for coaches and referees.
“Houston is showing the world what it means to come together as a community,” said Chris Canetti, President of FIFA World Cup 2026™. “With local youth leading the way, this moment reflects the energy, diversity, and spirit that will define Houston’s role as a host city in 2026.”
This event builds on Airbnb’s December 2025 announcement of its Houston investment, which supports the development of the Green Corridor—a 14-mile sustainable route connecting key FIFA World Cup 2026™ sites—and long-term community programs like Grow the Game.
Houston is expected to play a major role in the tournament, with Airbnb hosts in the region projected to welcome more than 31,000 guests during the event—generating an estimated $372 million in economic impact for the local economy, according to Deloitte.
