George Clarke to Bring Families Closer Together in Brand New Series Two Houses, One Home

Channel 4 have commissioned a brand-new four-part series from IWC (part of Banijay UK) fronted by leading architect, George Clarke.

George Clarke’s Two Houses, One Home will feature two separate households who dream of living together under one roof. Whether it’s a couple moving in together for the first time, two halves of a soon to be blended family, or grandparents ready to be closer to their loved ones, they will all have something in common; two houses that don’t work for the next stage of their lives and the need for one dream home fit for them all.

Each episode will follow one group on their property journey as they try to create the home that brings their two households together. They will sell the house they no longer need, channelling the money into renovating the remaining house, into their dream home.

It’s set to be a process filled with emotion as the bringing together of homes also necessitates a goodbye. Whether it’s the flat that got them through their boisterous twenties or the family home no longer fit for purpose in old age; moving to a single property may be the dream but is sure to demand some tough calls. Architect George Clarke will join them on their journey to provide moral support and practical advice along the way.

There will be major home renovations, the selling of houses and relatable dilemmas on how to fit two homes into one, on what is sure to be an emotional journey for the families involved. And all of it will culminate in a wonderful reveal, as George sees the finished result. Where once there was a family with two unsuitable houses, now they have one dream home.

George Clarke said, “At its heart, any successful home allows us to be together with those who matter to us, giving the space to share our lives, from the special events to the everyday moments. Seeing people giving their all to move in together and make this kind of space for themselves promises to be a heartwarming experience. It will be a joy to accompany them on their journey.”

IWC Media Head of Popular Factual, Gerard Costello said, “At IWC, we pride ourselves on our property programmes and seeing people work to make the perfect home for themselves is always a pleasure. This exciting new format shows that a house can never truly be home until it can accommodate all of those who want to be together under its roof. We’re excited to see the homes they make - and delighted George Clarke feels the same. There could be no better companion on their journey, as their two houses become one home.”

Senior Commissioning Editor, Clemency Green said, “This is a fantastic series that is as much about brilliantly inspiring house renovations as it is about exploring the changing needs we have for a home. As households blend and relationships evolve, the series captures the emotional realities of renovations and the practical and innovative design decisions that create a home for the whole household.”

George Clarke’s: Two Houses, One Home was commissioned for Channel 4 by Senior Commissioning Editor, Clemency Green with Director of Commissioning Nations & Regions, Jo Street.
