Channel 4 and Roundhouse Three Sixty Festival Announce First for Funny Line Up

WEBWIRE

Channel 4 and Roundhouse Three Sixty Festival are set to present First For Funny - a mixed-bill comedy night curated by Channel 4, taking place at the Roundhouse, London on Wednesday, 15th April.

The gig is part of Roundhouse Three Sixty Festival; a new festival of arts and culture taking place from 8th – 29th April as the legendary Camden venue marks the 20th anniversary since it reopened as a youth charity and independent flagship multi-arts space.

Audience members are invited to immerse themselves in an eclectic and fast-paced evening with a big collection of short, live sets from a diverse line up of the UK’s best comedic minds. Come for a colourful laugh, leave with new comedy obsessions.

’First For Funny’ is a joint venture between Channel 4’s Comedy, Digital and Entertainment Commissioning genres which works to showcase the best up-and-coming comedians in the UK, with the aim of getting more brilliant people they love on broadcast platforms.

From staple Channel 4 programming such as 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, to the short form launch pad of Comedy Blaps on streaming, and the unfiltered camaraderie of A Comedy Thing by Channel 4 on YouTube, Channel 4 continues to cement its place as the broadcaster amplifying new comedic talent.

The line-up features a host of 16 talented comedians: Ahir Shah, Andrew Mensah, Britney, Catherine Bohart, Eli Hart, Eric Rushton, Finlay Christie, Gbemi Oladipo, Harriet Dyer, Janine Harouni, John Tothill, Kim Blythe, Maya Ricote, Samira Banks, Tom Towelling and Will Robbins.

Charlie Perkins, Channel 4’s Head of Comedy said: “Live Comedy in the UK is world class and it needs prevalence and support more so now than ever before. It’s the bedrock of our work in Scripted Comedy, and across Channel 4, comedy in all its guises is a foundational part of our brand. Establishing and growing First For Funny has been an amazing part of the last year for us and we’re hugely honoured to be scaling up alongside the Roundhouse in April. Plus watching live comedy and drinking pints is our favourite pastime, so it’s a dream gig for us.”

Cimran Shah, Channel 4’s Entertainment & Reality Commissioning Editor comments: “Our Comedy and Entertainment slate plays an integral role in bringing the brightest talent from the circuit and social media to new audiences. First For Funny is a pathway that expands the range of comics seen on the likes of The Last Leg and Cats Does Countdown bridging that gap between broadcast and digital by providing another platform for comedians to showcase their comedy chops.”

Charlie Hyland, Channel 4’s Digital Commissioning Editor, Comedy adds: “I strongly believe British comedy is alive and kicking online, on TV, and in a live setting, and this is a brilliant collision of all those comedic elements that we love at Channel 4. This night is about celebrating talent we all love and showing that bringing people together in a live room still really matters. We’re helping spot the next generation of comics, and brands like A Comedy Thing show how talent that starts online can quickly find its way onto bigger stages. I quite like pints too…”

Marcus Davey CBE, CEO and Artistic Director of the Roundhouse said: “We are incredibly proud to partner with Channel 4 on First For Funny, an event that embodies the spirit of the Roundhouse Three Sixty Festival. It’s vital that we provide a platform for the next generation of artists, including comedians. This night is about celebrating world-class live comedy while also championing young talent - and it will be a true highlight of the Festival.”

Now in its second year, the Roundhouse Three Sixty programme features a packed line-up of unique performances, world exclusives and unmissable collaborations. Tickets are now on sale with over a thousand tickets available for £5 or less, including 600 dedicated to people aged 30 and under.
