Max Merrick pens new contract
Chelsea Football Club is pleased to announce that Academy goalkeeper Max Merrick has signed a new contract, keeping him at the club until at least 2028.
Merrick joined the Blues at Under-13s level and has developed steadily through the Academy ranks. At Cobham, Merrick has become a consistent presence for our Under-21s, featuring across the Premier League 2, the Premier League International Cup and the EFL Vertu Trophy.
He gained his first taste of senior football during the 2022/23 season, with a loan spell at Hanwell Town. In January 2025, he continued that experience with a second loan move, to National League South side Hampton & Richmond.
Last season, the 20-year-old was named in the senior matchday squad for the UEFA Conference League fixtures against Noah and Astana. He has since been included in five of our eight UEFA Champions League group-stage squads in 2025/26 and was part of the travelling squad for the Premier League draw at Manchester City in January.
On the international stage, Merrick made his England Under-20s debut in October 2025.
