Electric mobility: Enel, 3,730 charging points installed throughout Italy under first PNRR call for proposals

• Charging stations have been installed in five regions and 21 provinces; an additional 1,200 charging points under the second and third PNRR calls for proposals are on the way
• To mark the occasion, a charging station has been inaugurated on Via Cristoforo Colombo in Rome, in front of the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security.

Enel confirms its leadership in the development of electric mobility by completing the installation of charging points under the first call for proposals of the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). The 3,730 ‘fast’ charging points cover five regions (Campania, Lazio, Lombardy, Puglia and Sicily) and 21 provinces, with 298 stations in Naples province, 227 in Milan’s, 111 in Bari’s, 112 in Catania’s and 396 in Rome’s.

To celebrate the milestone, Enel today inaugurated the charging station installed in front of the headquarters of the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security, at Via Cristoforo Colombo 72, in Rome. The event was attended by Simone Tripepi, Head of Charging Point Operator at Enel; Fabrizio Iaccarino, Head of Institutional Affairs, Italy at Enel; Giorgio Centurelli, Head of the Technical Secretariat of the Minister of Environment and Energy Security; and Fabrizio Penna, Head of the Mission Unit for the PNRR.

Enel’s infrastructural intervention – partly made possible by the funds provided by the European Union’s Next Generation EU – also includes a new tranche of installations of an additional 1,200 charging points from the second and third PNRR calls; once completed, these will result in a total of approximately 5,000 charging points in nine regions: Lombardy, Piedmont, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Lazio, Campania, Puglia and Sicily. Approximately 40% of the installations are located in southern Italy. The Enel Group has therefore achieved 50% of the grants awarded to date in the three PNRR calls for charging infrastructure in urban contexts.

These figures confirm Enel’s leadership in electric mobility, a pillar of the company’s energy transition strategy that aims to support a sustainable, digital transport ecosystem accessible to all citizens and businesses who choose to travel electric.

The charging stations installed run at a power of up to 90 kW per single connector and can serve two vehicles at the same time, resulting in rapid charging. To access the Enel charging service, the Enel On Your Way app and card are available, as well as those from the more than 160 interoperable Mobility Service Providers in Italy and abroad. The inclusion of POS means payments can be made directly at the charging points, using a debit or credit card. This approach makes the user experience more friendly and familiar for drivers of electric vehicles.
