Wärtsilä environmentally-friendly heating plant in Eastern Russia

WEBWIRE

Wärtsilä Corporation won a contract in March 2007 to deliver a 20 MW Wärtsilä BioEnergy boiler plant to the sawmill company LDK Igirma Ltd in the Irkutsk region of Russia.

Wärtsilä will deliver two BioEnergy boiler units, each able to produce 10 MW of heat for the sawmill’s dryer chambers and other heating services. The boilers will burn wood residues from the sawmill. The boiler plant equipment will be shipped in September and will be fully operational and handed over in December 2007.

“Wärtsilä has already delivered a number of BioEnergy plants to Russia, but this plant in Irkutsk region is the furthest east. This contract is significant to us, because the project will be executed in the very important wood processing area in Siberia and the customer Sibexportles Group Ltd is a major player in the Russian sawmill business, investing in new and effective sawmills with state-of-the-art equipment” ,says Tauno Kuitunen, Regional Director, Europe, Wärtsilä Biopower Oy.

Wärtsilä BioEnergy and BioPower plants are clean and efficient. They feature patented Wärtsilä BioGrate combustion technology to burn biomass fuels with high combustion efficiency and low NOx and CO emissions. They are thus practical solutions for the need for renewable energy supplies with minimum environmental impact.
