Bed bugs (Cimex lectularius), as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), are small, flat, parasitic insects that feed on the blood of humans and animals while they sleep. 3. Carefully consider treatment options instead of immediately using pesticides
4. Reducing clutter to eliminate hiding places
5. Regularly washing and heat-dry bedding and clothing that touches the floor
6. Understanding that do-it-yourself freezing methods may be unreliable
7. Using heat treatments cautiously and correctly
8. Preventing the spread of bed bugs to others
9. Reducing bed bug populations to minimize bites
10. Turning to professionals when necessary
