MGM+, a premium linear channel and streaming service, today announced that production on the second season of the hit thriller horror series The Institute, based on the best-selling Stephen King novel, began February 3 in Halifax. Alfie Allen (Game of Thrones, Rogue Heroes) joins the cast playing Nolan Reeves, an eccentric European tech billionaire and one of the Institute’s financial backers with an ambitious agenda all his own. Allen joins returning season two cast members Ben Barnes (Shadow and Bone, The Punisher, Westworld), Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds), Joe Freeman, Simone Miller (Run the Burbs), Fionn Laird (Under the Banner of Heaven), Robert Joy (FROM), Arlen So (Private Eyes West Coast), Jeff Fahey (Lost) and Hannah Galway (Billy the Kid).

From executive producer Stephen King with director and executive producer Jack Bender (Lost, Game of Thrones, Mr. Mercedes, FROM) and executive producer and writer Benjamin Cavell (Justified, The Stand), the series comes from MGM+ Studios. The series will premiere exclusively on MGM+ in the U.S., UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium, Brazil, Mexico, Chile, and Colombia. Amazon MGM Studios Distribution will distribute in all other international territories.

The Institute Season Two picks up Luke Ellis, Tim Jamieson, and their fellow survivors in the immediate aftermath of Season One’s explosive climax as they work to expose the Institute’s crimes while staying one step ahead of the army of killers on their tail. Meanwhile, the ruthless and calculating Ms. Sigsby pursues her quest for vengeance and a return to power, in the process discovering more about the deep inner workings of the Institute than she ever could have imagined.

Tony and Emmy nominated actor Alfie Allen is perhaps best known for playing Theon Greyjoy in HBO’s multi-award-winning television series Game of Thrones. He most recently wrapped production on the second season of Netflix’s sci-fi show 3 Body Problem. Recent television credits include the Paramount+ limited series, Girl Taken, the Sky series Atomic, Mark Williams’ thriller series Safe Harbour, and Steven Knight’s BBC Series Rogue Heroes. Additional film credits include Taika Waititi’s Academy Award and Golden Globe nominated Jojo Rabbit, Chad Stahelski and David Leitch’s John Wick, 20th Century Fox’s reboot of The Predator, Netflix’s Night Teeth, Coky Giedroyc’s How to Build a Girl and Joe Wright’s Atonement. Allen has also starred in several theatre productions, the most recent of which, Dealer’s Choice, completed a critically acclaimed run at the prestigious Donmar Warehouse this past spring. Allen made his Broadway debut in Martin McDonagh’s play Hangmen for which he was nominated for a Tony award for Best Featured Actor in a Play.
