Brick & Mortar is SCOTT’s series celebrating local bike shops and the people who bring their cycling communities to life. For this installment of Brick & Mortar, we travel to the heart of downtown Lawrence, Kansas to highlight Sunflower Outdoor & Bike. Founded in 1972, the shop has had a unique journey to become one of Kansas’ premier cycling shops and vibrant member of the Lawrence community.

Sunflower started as an army surplus store that has evolved over the years. Starting in the 90’s, we began selling bikes alongside the camping and outdoor equipment we’d been selling for years.  More recently our business has expanded to a full-service café and bar as well as a wellness center that offers yoga / massage therapy and event space too.

With a function from our location, we specialize in gravel cycling and gravel bikes. Being blessed with so many gravel roads in our location and with Emporia (home of Unbound Gravel) just down the road, we have set ourselves apart as a shop that is an authority on gravel.

We like working with SCOTT because they are a very reputable brand. We’re able to offer WorldTour level bikes but also have bikes that are accessible to newcomers to the sport. They have a great selection of multiple disciplines such as gravel, mountain, road and e-bikes we can offer to our customers. We are proud to be partners with Scott bikes.
