The 26-year-old has penned a five-and-a-half-year deal, which will see him stay at the Etihad Stadium through to 2031.

Semenyo has enjoyed a meteoric rise to become one of the Premier League’s most feared forwards.

Born in London of Ghanaian descent, Semenyo started his professional career at Bristol City but he also took in loan spells at Bath City, Newport County and Sunderland as he further honed his craft.

After impressing at Ashton Gate, Bournemouth spotted his potential and took him to the Premier League midway through the 2022/23 season from where his career has gone from strength to strength ever since.

Chiefly operating down the left side of an attacking midfield trio, Semenyo’s time with the Cherries has seen him emerge as one of the Premier League’s most exciting and sought-after attacking wingers.

Now, after chalking up 110 appearances all told for Bournemouth, the Ghanaian international is ready to embark on an exciting new challenge with City, where he will add further flair and goal threat to Pep Guardiola’s squad.

He will be available to feature immediately for City and is also eligible to play in next Tuesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg at Newcastle.

“I am so proud to have joined Manchester City,” said Semenyo.

“I have watched City over the last decade under Pep Guardiola, and they have been the dominant team in the Premier League as well as achieving amazing things in the Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup.

“They have set the highest of standards and it’s a club with world-class players, world-class facilities and one of the greatest managers ever in Pep.

“I have so much scope for improvement, so to be at this club, at this stage of my career, is perfect for me. It’s a real privilege to be here.

“My best football is yet to come, I am sure of that. And City are in a great position – still involved in four competitions. I really feel I can help them have a strong second half of the season.

“The Etihad is my new home. I can’t wait to play in front of the fans here and I hope to show everyone what I can do.”

Director of Football Hugo Viana was ebullient in his praise of Semenyo as he explained the reasons behind the young forward’s capture this January.

“Antoine is a really exciting signing for the football club,” Viana said. “He made it clear to us immediately that it was City he wanted to join. His enthusiasm for this football club has been clear throughout the process.

“He has huge quality. Two great feet, pace, power, a habit of influencing games and, importantly, real room for growth and development. I am excited to see the player Antoine can become in the weeks, months and years ahead.

“We are constantly watching players all over the world. Antoine was the one we most wanted. He has shown he can perform in the Premier League. He is humble, hard-working, professional and totally focused on being a better footballer. He is ideal for us.”

Everyone at Manchester City would like to welcome Antoine to the Club and wish him all the best on his new venture.

Winging in

Possessed with superb natural talent, a superb turn of speed and a lethal eye for goal, Antoine Semenyo possesses the perfect array of qualities to truly shine at City.

Indeed, such are his abundant skill sets, Antoine feels tailor-made to thrive in the brand of exciting, attacking-based football that has become the hallmark of Pep Guardiola’s storied City reign.

Crucially, he arrives at the Etihad already armed with a wealth of top-flight experience thanks to his time at Bournemouth where he has thrived over the past three years.

On top of that, Semenyo also boasts international pedigree of the highest calibre.

One of the key pillars of the Ghana national side that will face England amongst others at this summer’s World Cup, Semenyo has already amassed 32 international caps for his country, featuring for his country at the 2022 World Cup finals.

His route to the Etihad has been one underscored by hard work, resilience and a cast-iron belief in his ability, the very essence of the ethos instilled at City by Guardiola over the best part of a decade.

It was during a loan spell at Newport in the 2018/19 season where a teenage  Semenyo – who had begun his fledgling career as a central striker – was first regularly deployed out wide instead to impressive effect.

Having helped the Welsh side to a notable FA Cup third round win over then Premier League outfit Leicester City, Semenyo was subsequently recalled by parent club Bristol City where he quickly established himself in the Championship side’s squad, signing a new long-term contract in the summer of 2019.

Having furthered his experience in the second half of the COVID-interrupted 2019/20 season with a loan spell at Sunderland, the 2020/21 campaign saw Semenyo’s career truly start to take flight with the Robins.

He chalked up 50 games for Bristol City in all competitions that season, and his impact was such that he was named the club’s Young Player of the Year.

His upward trajectory continued the following term where he contributed eight goals and 12 assists from 32 appearances all told.

The advent of the 2022/23 campaign saw Semenyo’s talent and rich promise draw significant interest from the Premier League with Southampton and Crystal Palace amongst a posse of prospective suitors before Bournemouth sealed a deal to sign him in January 2023.

Having quickly adjusted to life in the topflight, the subsequent arrival of Andoni Iraola as Cherries manager in the summer of 2023 saw Semenyo’s Vitality Stadium career further go from strength to strength.

Deployed chiefly down the left side of Bournemouth’s attacking midfield trio, Semenyo quickly emerged as one of the Premier League’s most dynamic and eye-catching young players.

Having notched up eight goals and three assists in the 2023/24 season – his first full campaign in the topflight – Semenyo kicked on again for the

Cherries last term, claiming 11 goals in the Premier League and 13 in all competitions.
Ahead of his move to the Etihad, Semenyo’s upward trajectory has seen him elevate his game to another level yet again in 2025/26.

As we enter the second half of the campaign, Antoine already has 10 Premier League strikes, to his name including a brace at Liverpool and a memorable last-minute winner in a 3-2 win over Tottenham which marked his Bournemouth farewell on his birthday too!

Now, having just turned 26, Semenyo is set to enter the prime years of his career as part of Guardiola’s exciting City squad.

The sky is the limit!
