Caribbean Legal Sector Accelerates AI Adoption as Trust Becomes the Differentiator
New LexisNexis survey shows rapid AI uptake among Caribbean attorneys, with three-quarters saying trusted legal sources are key to confident AI use.
LexisNexis® Legal & Professional, a global leader in private, secure, authoritative, legal AI workflow solutions, has published a new survey showing rapid AI uptake among Caribbean attorneys, with three-quarters saying trusted legal sources are key to confident AI use.
Findings from the Caribbean Legal Market 2026 report show that nearly eight in ten Caribbean attorneys (78%) now use AI tools. Crucially, three-quarters (75%) say they feel more confident using AI that is grounded in trusted legal sources, underlining the importance of authoritative content and responsible AI design as firms modernise.
AI adoption is being driven by mounting client pressure. Just over half (51%) of attorneys say client demands have increased over the past year, with expectations for faster turnaround times and greater cost efficiency now the norm. Providing a quality service remains the priority, with 82% of attorneys stating they always prioritise accuracy over speed. However, nearly half (46%) admit they spend too much time drafting or updating legal documents, exposing clear efficiency gaps that AI is increasingly expected to address.
At the same time, firms are operating under intensifying commercial pressure. Rising costs are the single biggest challenge facing Caribbean legal teams (59%), followed by the rapid pace of technological change and growing cybersecurity risks (both 41%). Despite these headwinds, confidence in the market remains resilient: 42% of attorneys report their firm is growing compared with three to four years ago.
Investment is increasingly aligned to AI-enabled transformation. Many firms have already upgraded their websites (40%), hired additional support staff (30%), and reviewed their legal information sources (28%). Looking ahead, the majority plan further investment in technology, training, and process improvement as they seek to embed AI more strategically. Yet only 5% say AI is fully integrated into their firm’s strategy, and one in five report that AI is not discussed at all, highlighting a gap between experimentation and maturity.
While attorneys recognise AI’s potential to improve speed and productivity, concerns persist. Hallucinations (70%), over-reliance on AI outputs (53%), and confidentiality risks (51%) remain top of mind – reinforcing why trusted, secure legal AI tools are essential to building confidence and sustaining professional standards.
AI is also beginning to influence how legal work is priced. Although the billable hour still dominates (64%), many firms are experimenting with fixed fees, retainers, and alternative pricing models, with 34% of attorneys expecting AI to shape future pricing structures.
Together, the findings point to a Caribbean legal market moving decisively towards AI-enabled practice, but with trust, transparency, and quality as non-negotiables. As one attorney surveyed observed: “Speed is now something clients expect as a baseline, not an add-on.”
