TCM Celebrates the Life and Legacy of Filmmaker Rob Reiner
Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will honor the life and career of filmmaker Rob Reiner with a programming tribute headlined by a special premiere presentation of The Princess Bride (1987) on January 28, 2026. The Princess Bride endures as one of Reiner’s most beloved achievements—celebrated for its wit, emotional sincerity, and timeless storytelling that continues to resonate with audiences across generations. A longtime friend of TCM and a passionate advocate of film preservation, Reiner was one of the most accomplished and versatile filmmakers of his generation.
“With This is Spinal Tap Rob began an extraordinary 11-year run that rivals the finest directors in Hollywood history: He made The Sure Thing, Stand by Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Misery, A Few Good Men, and The American President. The profound sense of loss we’re all feeling is heightened by Rob’s lofty standing in Hollywood, he was universally loved inside the entertainment industry. I did not know him as well as I would have liked, but he always made me feel like we had been pals for decades. Rob’s character was defined by the qualities we see in those films: kindness, decency, humor, compassion, and most of all, a belief in humanity.” – TCM Host Ben Mankiewicz.
Reiner began his career as an actor and became a cultural touchstone with his Emmy Award–winning portrayal of Michael “Meathead” Stivic on the groundbreaking television series All in the Family.
He went on to direct an extraordinary body of work that ranged across comedy, romance, drama, and social commentary. His films include This Is Spinal Tap (1984), Stand by Me (1986), When Harry Met Sally… (1989), Misery (1990), A Few Good Men (1992), and most recently Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, each leaving an indelible mark on American cinema.
