Homeward Bound conclude its tenth edition with the First Global Women’s Leadership Summit
The project, in which 775 women from 69 countries have participated to date, moves to Africa after ten years exploring Antarctica
The global women’s leadership initiative Homeward Bound, promoted by ACCIONA, has completed its tenth edition with the First Global Women’s Leadership Summit in Tanzania, held in the regions of Arusha, Karatu, and the Serengeti.
This year, 57 women of 17 nationalities participated.
The fifteen-day trip included a first week of collaborative work and training in Arusha, followed by another week of travel to Karatu and the Serengeti.
During the summit, working groups were set up to discuss major global challenges such as global warming, equitable development, the preservation of cultural diversity, and the defense of ecosystems. The participants were also able to interact with local communities and see first-hand these areas of enormous environmental value.
This edition was the first to finish in Tanzania, instead of Antarctica, which had been the program’s destination in previous years.
Homeward Bound aims to create an international network of 10,000 female professionals in STEMM disciplines by 2036 for collaboration on projects in various scientific and geographical fields. The program seeks to increase the visibility of female leaders in science and empower them to become agents of change, capable of influencing and promoting solutions to address the challenges we face as a global society.
To date, 775 women of 69 nationalities have participated in Homeward Bound.
ACCIONA promotes the inclusion of women in the sectors in which it operates.
