The Mounts of Mayhem drop is now available for Minecraft on Nintendo Switch
The Mounts of Mayhem game drop* has been unleashed in Minecraft for the Nintendo Switch™ system. Choose your steed, master the spear, and outsmart foes both familiar and new to become a true champion.
Take a look at the trailer to see Mounts of Mayhem in action!
New weapon: the spearAdd a new weapon to your armory—the spear. This tiered weapon is perfect for both hand-to-hand and mounted combat, and the spear’s damage can scale based on the speed of the player wielding it. The spear has two different attacks: the jab attack, perfect for keeping foes at a distance thanks to its knockback, and the charge attack, which deals more damage the faster you travel—ideally on a steed.
The spear also has the unique Lunge enchantment. Enchantments allow you to apply different buffs to weapons, armor or tools such as increasing durability, attack power, and more. Enchanting the spear with the Lunge enchantment will give you a burst of speed when using the jab attack. This will let you close the gap on your foes with speed. The higher the enchantment level, the farther you will travel.
Using an enchanted spear will consume your hunger points in the same way as sprinting or jumping. Enchanted spears will consume more hunger depending on their enchantment level.
New mountsThis game drop brings new mounts for you to ride. In oceans, you will find the nautilus and zombie nautilus. If you’re lucky, you may also find a rare variant of the zombie nautilus, but you’ll have to explore warmer waters to discover it.
The nautilus and zombie nautilus are special underwater mounts that allow you to travel faster underwater. Riding either of these mobs will also preserve your air supply, thanks to the Breath of the Nautilus effect—so you can stay submerged for longer. Both the nautilus and zombie nautilus can be tamed with pufferfish, so dive in and start exploring the Overworld’s oceans with your new mount.
Desert explorers might also encounter another mob: the camel husk. Found in sandy biomes, these mobs don’t burn in sunlight and can spawn with not one, but two riders. This means you’ll have to triumph against them in both mounted and ranged combat to try and tame one for yourself (and maybe a friend?)
You also have a chance to meet zombie horses. This passive mob spawns at night, ridden by spear-wielding zombies. Unseat its rider and hop on board to tame this adorably undead mount.
Netherite horse armorThis drop is all about your four-legged friends, so horses have also gotten new Netherite armor. Netherite armor is the strongest armor tier in Minecraft, and it is immune to fire damage. To craft this new Netherite horse armor, you will need to combine diamond horse armor with a Netherite ingot and Netherite upgrade template at the smithing table.
As well as being impervious to fire in Netherite horse armor, horses can now swim across bodies of water, too. They won’t move as quickly in water as they do on dry land, but at least you won’t need to ferry them across in a boat anymore!
Hostile ridersThe zombie horse, zombie nautilus, and camel husk are all passive mobs that can be saddled and tamed. But their riders are very hostile.
Zombie nautiluses are ridden by trident-wielding “drowned.” Zombie horses are ridden by “zombies,” equipped with spears. Camel husks are ridden by not one, but two riders. In addition to a “husk” rider, camel husks also have a new hostile mob on board called a “parched.” Unlike other undead mobs, the “parched” doesn’t burn during the day, and likes to attack with a bow and arrow.
