The Physiological Society and Wiley have signed a new publishing contract for leading journals The Journal of Physiology and Experimental Physiology, marking the next step in a partnership that has grown steadily since it began in 2003. The agreement, running through 2036, extends a successful collaboration to publish high-impact research that advances our understanding of biological systems and improves human health.

As one of the world’s oldest and most respected scientific societies, the Physiological Society by Royal Charter is committed to advancing physiology through high quality publishing, strong research communities and support for authors at every career stage. Its journals are central to this mission and continue to shape the direction of the field. Together, these publications reach more than seven million full-text article views annually, providing researchers, educators, and students worldwide with peer-reviewed content that connects physiological science to everyday health and wellbeing.

As the world’s leading society publisher, Wiley offers global reach and publishing expertise that will support the continued success of the Society’s journals, enhancing their visibility, impact and long-term growth. The partnership will continue to provide authors and reviewers with improved production times, strengthened research integrity tools and better ways for readers to discover and navigate content.

“Physiology is thriving at the frontier of understanding how the body functions, translating complex biological systems into insights that are revolutionizing our understanding of human health and driving real-world medical advances,” said Professor Annette Dolphin, President of the Physiological Society. “The Journal of Physiology and Experimental Physiology are leading journals in their field and have both been the home of game changing research for decades. In 2026 as the Physiological Society celebrates our 150th year, our journals continue to lead the way in publishing high quality science that pushes the discipline forward.”

“Wiley has been a trusted partner for over twenty years, and this renewed agreement strengthens our shared commitment to supporting the researchers whose work improves lives,” she added.

[p"We’re honored to extend our longstanding partnership with the Physiological Society as they approach their 150th anniversary,” said Martin Vinding, Wiley Senior Director, Partner Publishing. "Over two decades, we’ve worked together to navigate significant industry changes – from the transition to open access to implementing AI-driven tools that enhance research discovery. This renewal reflects our shared commitment to delivering high-quality content that drives scientific breakthroughs and improves lives" [/p]
