Kate Hawley to Receive First-Ever Costume Designer Award at the Fashion Awards 2025 Presented by Pandora
The British Fashion Council (BFC) announces renowned costume designer Kate Hawley as the recipient of the inaugural Costume Designer of the Year Award at The Fashion Awards 2025 presented by Pandora (TFA), taking place on Monday 1st December 2025 at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The Award, presented by Oscar and BAFTA winning British Costume Designer Sandy Powell, celebrates a leading costume designer who has made a significant impact on the fashion industry and wider culture through their work in entertainment over the past year. This honour recognises Hawley’s exceptional costume design for Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, emphasising the craftsmanship, creativity, and fashion artistry that bring cinematic storytelling to life. This marks the first time a Costume Designer of the Year Award has been presented in the event’s history.
Trained at London’s esteemed Motley School of Theatre Design, Kate Hawley is acclaimed for her innovative, narrative-driven approach to costume design across film, opera, theatre and ballet. Her feature film credits include her work on productions of Frankenstein, Crimson Peak, and Pacific Rim, as well as major studio productions such as Suicide Squad, Edge of Tomorrow, and The Hobbit. Her ability to create costumes that define character, elevate story, and resonate beyond the theatre are especially visible in Frankenstein, where she blends historical authenticity with a contemporary eye and incorporates technical research to inform custom patterns and fabrics. Her work has been exhibited internationally and honoured with an Emmy nomination, Saturn and Empire Award, and a Costume Designers Guild Award for excellence in Sci-fi and Fantasy, among others.
Laura Weir, Chief Executive Officer, British Fashion Council: “Film has long been one of fashion’s most powerful creative partnerships. Because of this, I believe it is important to celebrate film at The Fashion Awards. The Costume Design Award allows us to honour the storytellers, visionaries and craftspeople whose work shapes the way global audiences see culture and character through clothing and costume. We are very excited to honour Kate Hawley as the inaugural Costume Design Award winner for her narrative-defining work on Netflix’s Frankenstein"
The Fashion Awards 2025 presented by Pandora is a vital fundraiser for the BFC Foundation and spotlights the cultural power of fashion, its most iconic moments and the visionary talents pushing boundaries and redefining the industry. The evening will celebrate how fashion drives and is driven by wider culture, intersecting with music, film, sport and performance art to shape the visual language of our time.
