In the wake of consecutive natural disasters that have devastated parts of the Philippines, the H&M Foundation is donating USD 250,000 to support emergency relief and long-term recovery efforts. The funds will be divided between The Philippine Red Cross (USD 150,000) and Save the Children (USD 100,000) to help reach those most affected.

In late September, a 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck the province of Cebu, damaging more than 130,000 homes and disrupting the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. As communities were beginning to recover, Typhoon Tino and Super Typhoon Uwan followed in quick succession, causing widespread flooding, landslides and displacement across seven regions. Altogether, more than two million people have been affected.

Our donation will help ensure that lifesaving support such as shelter, clean water, health care and mental health services reaches those who need it most. The Philippine Red Cross will provide integrated relief including shelter, water and sanitation, livelihood assistance and health services. Since children in several areas have been unable to attend school for an extended period, it is essential to incorporate a child-focused perspective into this support. The support to Save the Children will focus on education continuity, child protection and gender sensitive support for children and families.

Funded by the Persson family, the H&M Foundation leverages its philanthropic strengths to drive transformative change, focusing on high-emission areas in the textile value chain.
