Motorola ushers in a new era of smartphone photography, enhanced with moto ai

In 2004, Motorola made history with the Motorola i860, the first iDEN (Integrated Digital Enhanced Network) phone to feature a camera and ability to record 10-second videos. Smartphone photography has evolved tenfold since those early snapshots. Today, our teams are working hard to adapt to shifting consumer preferences, behaviors and even new form factors like foldable smartphones.

Over the last year, Motorola has supercharged our focus on elevating all areas of photography to evolve the smartphone camera experience for Motorola users. This process has been driven by user feedback and industry scoring, which we leveraged to ensure our new Motorola smartphones deliver the best final image quality for our users. The result: revolutionary photo and video quality available across Motorola devices, including the motorola edge 50 ultra, being ranked a top 5 camera system by DXOMARK in 2024, that can keep up with cameras of the best competing devices on the market at an affordable price point for everyone.

Not only that, we’ve worked hard to deliver state-of-the-art hardware, from our foldables and flagships to budget-friendly options, year over year. With the motorola edge 50 ultra, users experienced our most impressive camera system yet, which featured an array of high-resolution cameras, including a 50MP main lens, 50MP ultrawide lens, 50MP selfie camera and 64MP telephoto lens. Now, we’re offering the world’s first triple 50MP cameras on a flip phone with the motorola razr 60 ultra/razr ultra and four pro-grade cameras with the motorola edge 60 pro and motorola edge 60 for professional-grade images. AI has been enhancing Motorola camera features behind the scenes for years, but with moto ai, we’ve been able to further fine-tune the software, in tandem with creative hardware, that powers our camera systems for the perfect shot every time and transforms everyday moments into cinematic masterpieces.

We’ve leveraged moto ai in our camera systems to help users explore their creative side and address common user pain points. These two new features remove the time, resources and hassle of manually editing photos by using AI to capture the world around you —  Signature Style automatically tunes images and adjusts color, lighting and tone based on the scene, while Group Shot ensures the perfect group photos every time, with everyone’s eyes open. 

At the core of every photo is our AI-powered Photo Enhancement Engine,¹ which automatically enhances dynamic range, reduces noise, and brings out fine details for top-tier image quality without needing to adjust any settings yourself. Now, with our AI-powered Super Zoom, our premium devices deliver sharper details and crisp, high-resolution results even when zooming in at the highest levels.  

We’ve also added intelligent features for more dynamic shooting. With Action Shot, users can capture moving subjects, freezing the action with clarity and confidence, whether it’s kids playing or a dog sprinting across a park. Plus, Adaptive Stabilization, available exclusively on the motorola razr 60/motorola razr, leverages moto ai to intelligently detect motion and adjust for smoother blur-free videos and photos, even in high-action scenarios. To further elevate the image quality, Ultra HDR is now integrated across our latest devices, a major leap that ensures brighter highlights, deeper shadows, and greater contrast in every frame, for images that are as true-to-life as they are stunning.

Recently, Motorola achieved another mobile smartphone photography feat with the release of the most advanced flip camera system in the world on the motorola razr 60 ultra/razr ultra.  At the core of this next-generation flip phone is the industry-leading 50MP camera system, delivering a camera experience without compromises.  The new razr family also continues to keep up with the needs of content creators — offering Flex View (where the device transforms into a tripod for hands-free selfies) and Camcorder Mode (where the device can be used as a camcorder for a retro feeling with added stability when capturing videos, and automatically starts recording by simply folding the device into this mode).
