Nike is reopening its newly renovated Portland store in the heart of the city’s downtown, reflecting the brand’s commitment to serving its hometown community and creating best-in-class retail experiences to serve all athletes*.
The renovated Nike Portland store, located in the historic Kress Building, is an elevated sport, community and culture hub focused on serving athletes of all ages with Nike’s premium products and experiences across running, training, sportswear, local collegiate and professional sports, and more. Closed for renovation since late 2023, the new store will reenergize downtown Portland through sport while serving as a tribute to the brand’s athletic heritage and nearly six-decade history in Oregon’s largest city.
“Nike is committed to elevating retail around the world, centered around athletes and sport,” says Craig Williams, EVP, Chief Commercial Officer, NIKE, Inc. “Nike Portland is a great example of that commitment, infusing hyperlocal relevance and spotlighting the best innovations from our brands.”
The new Nike Portland is rooted in sport, immersing athletes in the world of Nike from the moment they walk through the tunnel-like entrance and are greeted by vibrant displays featuring the brand’s defining seasonal sport campaigns — at opening, the Vomero 18 GORE-TEX launch.
The central rotunda is dedicated to running footwear and innovation, while men’s and women’s performance apparel and sportswear wrap around its outer walls, creating distinct, sport-led shopping areas. The remaining space houses Jordan Brand and basketball innovations, with kids and local collegiate and professional team gear featured prominently at the register. Each area offers head-to-toe shopping, serving athletes with distinct sport journeys tailored to how they shop.
Nike Portland is the latest global retail location Nike has renovated, reflecting the company’s global commitment to elevating its retail spaces — creating sport worlds, new ways to spotlight the brand’s pinnacle innovations, immersive storytelling and novel experiences.
The Nike Harajuku store in Tokyo, renovated and opened in September, offers fully immersive and sport-centered experiences designed to support the modern athlete. The renovated retail location is one of several worldwide to feature NSRL Form, a full-body running and motion analysis experience developed by the Nike Sport Research Lab to help athletes understand how they run by capturing 150 data points on their body in motion during a two-minute treadmill session.
Nike Oxford Circus, the three‑floor “temporary flagship” opened in July while the historic NikeTown London undergoes a transformation through 2027, further reflects the depth of Nike’s commitment to retail. Despite being a temporary location, the store has been reimagined to serve the London running community, featuring a curated mix of Nike innovations across distinct sport worlds that inspire athletes and offer head-to-toe, immersive shopping experiences. In addition, Nike opened Nike Women King’s Road in October, introducing a premium women’s shopping destination in West London.
NIKE, Inc.’s focus on elevated and distinct retail also extends to Jordan Brand’s first U.S. World of Flight location, which opened in Philadelphia last month.
Nike has had a presence in downtown Portland since 1990, first opened its Kress Building location in 2011 and began renovating the space in late 2023. Nike also donated more than $13 million in cash contributions to local community organizations in 2024, and employees have dedicated nearly 40,000 hours in local volunteer time.
To that end, Nike Portland is committed to advancing the future of youth sport by improving sport access and experiences through initiatives like the Nike Community Ambassador program, which empowers Nike store athletes to share their love of sport by serving as volunteer youth coaches.
Nike Portland opens November 13 at 638 S.W. Fifth Avenue. The opening celebration will include a public ceremony followed by community events on November 14 and 15.
