Vox Media announced The Long Game, a new podcast in partnership with Jake Sullivan, former U.S. National Security Advisor, and Jon Finer, former Principal Deputy National Security Advisor. For the last four years, the duo briefed the President of the United States on the world’s most complex national security challenges. The starting point for those conversations was a summary called the President’s Daily Brief that provides critical information and sensitive analysis from across the federal government. This weekly show will bring the President’s Daily Brief to podcast form.

Drawing on decades of firsthand experience shaping U.S. foreign policy with President Joe Biden, President Barack Obama, and Secretary Hillary Clinton, Sullivan and Finer will unpack the most pressing questions in national security and foreign policy, analyzing and debating the top national security issues driving the news—from escalating geopolitical conflicts, to cyber threats, to diplomacy on the world stage. The show will launch on November 7th, with new episodes out on Fridays on audio and video platforms including Apple, Spotify, and YouTube.

“Jon and I spent four years in the White House talking all day, every day, about everything happening on the planet. We also got a lot of practice briefing powerful and impatient people who wanted to know everything they needed to know in the shortest amount of time possible,” says Sullivan. “Now we’re taking that skill to our new podcast, The Long Game. We’ll inform, analyze, advocate, argue, and cover all the ground we think people need to know to make sense of the world. Thanks to Vox Media for being our partner and thanks to Jon for still talking to me after all these years.”

“Jake and I have been working on and debating the biggest issues in American foreign policy for more than 15 years,” says Finer. “Now we get to bring those experiences, perspectives and a bunch of good stories to The Long Game, a podcast that brings you inside the Situation Room, the Oval Office, and the other rooms where foreign policy happens. I’m grateful to Vox Media for giving us this platform and to Jake, because it’s a lot more fun to tackle such hard problems with a friend.”

Jake Sullivan served as the 28th U.S. National Security Advisor from January 2021 to January 2025. A longtime foreign policy leader, Sullivan also held senior roles in the Obama administration, including National Security Advisor to then-Vice President Biden, Director of Policy Planning at the State Department, and Deputy Chief of Staff to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. He is the inaugural Kissinger Professor at Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs and a Senior Fellow at the University of New Hampshire.

Jon Finer served as Principal Deputy National Security Advisor from 2021 to 2025. Earlier in his career, he was Chief of Staff to Secretary of State John Kerry, Director of Policy Planning at the State Department, and a White House Fellow. Before government service, Finer was a foreign correspondent for The Washington Post, reporting from Iraq, Gaza, Georgia, and beyond. He is a Carnegie Distinguished Visiting Fellow at Columbia.

“Jake and Jon have spent their careers shaping U.S. policy at the highest levels, and bring unparalleled insight into the world of national security and foreign affairs,” said Ray Chao, Vox Media’s SVP and GM of Audio and Video. “We’re fortunate that they’re opening the door to the Situation Room and the Oval Office through this new podcast to help all of us better understand and navigate this complex and pivotal time.”
