Alantra Appoints John Starkie as a Managing Director in Real Estate Debt Advisory

Alantra, the independent global mid-market financial services firm, has appointed John Starkie as a Managing Director in Real Estate Debt Advisory. Based in London, John will strengthen the firm’s international real estate platform by further expanding its debt advisory capabilities in the UK and across Europe.

John joins Alantra from JLL’s European Debt & Structured Finance team, bringing in more than 18 years of experience in Real Estate Capital Markets. He has advised on transaction volumes exceeding £20bn, spanning senior, bridge, construction and mezzanine financings, as well as joint ventures, equity placements and investment advisory mandates. His institutional client base includes leading global investors such as BlackRock, Columbia Threadneedle, Tishman Speyer and TPG Angelo Gordon. 

His appointment alongside Bobby Fletcher, Head of UK Real Assets, builds on the team’s existing capital raising capabilities and M&A advisory services, whilst further extending Alantra’s real estate asset class coverage, which includes hospitality, healthcare, residential, digital infrastructure, logistics, office, retail and life sciences. 

Alantra’s pan-European Real Estate team has built strong momentum over recent months, advising on high-profile transactions including Therme Group’s €1bn+ strategic joint venture with CVC Capital Partners, the institutional buy-out of hotel and spa operator, Baron’s Eden, and landmark financings such as the €93mn facility for Meliá Hotels International and Banca March, and the €61mn refinancing of office assets in Lisbon and Porto for Värde Partners.
